Should "Discovery" embrace "TOS" style music?

I'm talking more than once in awhile playing a musical cue from the theme song. I am talking about the wild and crazy music within the songs. "TOS" had the best music of all the shows since they didn't coform to the elevator music that Berman seemed to like. You wouldn't want them to just use the old stuff but make new stuff that sort of feels modern but also kind of close to that old music we use to hear. When you saw Mirror Georgiou for the first time you could have played something the feels like the time when Evil Kirk turns around on the transporter pad in "The Enemy Within." This music style would also help sell the idea of this being part of the same universe as "TOS."

I don't think there should be any TOS Music or anything that sounds like it's from the Berman Era.

Maybe some cues, in updated form, when there are exterior shots of the Enterprise, if it fits the tone of the scene in question, but that's as far as I'd go.

Honestly, I don't know what it is that some people perceive as so modern and contemporary about any element of this show. Yeah, there is such a thing; no, STD does not achieve any meaningful updating of anything about Trek except a bit of trivia around the edges.

Many of the TOS scores had strong jazz elements; certainly there was some interesting percussion.

So yeah, sort of - it would be nice to see a Trek series break away from the orchestral "we are so classic" wallpaper that typifies it. NuBSG went in a very interesting and different direction.

I'm a big believer that the show should try to adhere to TOS continuity, but I'd draw the line at using TOS style music. That was representative of the era the show was made in and would just be out of place now. Of all the issues I have with Discovery, the music isn't one of them.

I have never heard a single TNG-era track which sounded like "elevator music". True, much of it wasn't particularly memorable (except, for some reason, DS9--maybe that's just because it's my favorite show). The composers they employed were no Goldsmith or Doctor Who's Murray Gold, but none of the tracks sounded like "elevator music".
