Should Davros return at some point?

Doctorwhovian

Fleet Captain
Davros-creator (and sometimes leader) of the Daleks-last appeared in "Journey's End", where he was engulfed in flames. However this was not really seen clearly; Caan or another Dalek could have done the emergency temporal shift thing again. Maybe even Davros had it himself.

Davros of course first appeared in "Genesis of the Daleks" where he was exterminated by his own creations. (The story also retconned or reinterpeted Dalek origins-making them the product of a mad scientist more than mutated survivors of nuclear war) However the last few Dalek stories after that kept bringing him back (as a request of Terry Nation reportedly) to help the Daleks get out of a jam, and eventually leading to a civil war between the Daleks when Davros tried to engineer Daleks loyal to him. Davros also appears in several audio stories which detail his past and fill in some of the gaps between his TV appearences (Like how he became Emperor, survived the Movellan virus etc.) Originally played by Michael Wisher, he was later played by David Gooderson in Destiny of The Daleks (Who wore the same costume as Wisher which wasn't really a good fit) memorably by Terry Molloy in the 80s and the audios, and in the new series by Julian Bleach. It was also revealed he fought early during the Time War, and was saved from it by Dalek Caan.

Of course the first three season's Dalek stories did well without Davros, although he was mentioned in passing a few times (but not by name).

Some people think that having Davros around sort of cheapened the Daleks (With some comparing him to the Borg Queen in First Contact and Voyager), especially since he worked best in Genesis of the Daleks. But it'd be interesting to see him play off Capaldi IMO. I know there was some weird lawsuit where some guy claimed he was the real creator of Davros, but I doubt there was any credit to that.

Absolutely, I'd love to have Davros back. He's an interesting character and his unique relationship with the Daleks is worth exploring.

Besides, RTD never intended what we saw in Journey's End to be his death, stating that most Davros stories do end with him in similar certain death scenarios but he always manages to survive and return.

I'd like Davros to come back but I wouldn't want him to come back for every Dalek story. However, I doubt we'd go back to having him all the time.

Certainly characters can never die and will always inevitably return.

The Doctor. The Master. Davros. The Daleks. The Cybermen.

TBH I've always wanted to see him come back without the Daleks - ideally with the Cybermen, but since we've just had a two-part Cyber-finale, I'm in no hurry.

I think he'd work better with Capaldi than his nu-predecessors. He seems like he'd be a good foil for Capaldi's ascerbicness.

Given the rise of the new Dalek empire since Victory of the Daleks, Davros may be trying to get back in; nod to Remembrance of the Daleks perhaps.

I'd like to see Davros again. Julian Bleach did a very psychotic Davros for sure, but a believable one.

I also like the idea that the Doctor could encounter a pre-Dalek Davros, the young man before he created the Daleks.

Could make for very good conflict, "should the Doctor kill him before he can create the Daleks?".

My personal wish was that Davros died in Genesis. I liked him in that serial and haven't really liked him since. His appearance in New Who wasn't bad, though, but my preference is still Daleks without Davros.

That being said, the question is "at some point." Given that, yes, he should come back at some point. He shouldn't be there every time the Daleks appear and he ideally won't appear any time soon, but I have no problem with the idea of him appearing again eventually - particularly if the story is right.

At some point, I suppose so. Bleach was great, so maybe he should play the part again.

But I don't think we need to see much of the Daleks in the next few years. And since Davros would probably warrant a two-parter and/or a return appearance, I think they should hold off until at least season 10 if they're considering it.

They need to hold off on Davros for as long as possible. Come to think of it, I could stand to see far less of the Daleks, too. They're far less cool when they show up all the bloody time. They are best when used sparingly.

Most people are under the impression they're contractually obligated to use them every season.

He probably will eventually. Even though I'd prefer a new recurring nemesis to be created for the new series (and no, the Weeping Angels and the Silence don't count, because in my mind they're "monsters of the week"). And to be honest, the Weeping Angels probably need to be retired at this point because they've become less creepy with each successive appearance.

^ That's the typical pattern with recurring villains. The more they're used, the more they lose their luster.

And maybe this time he goes through with it? Changing/erasing the entire Dalek history.
Unfortunately the Daleks never existing gave rise to another much more dangerous enemy.
Maybe a race of Anti Timelords or something like that? ;)

Davros stories are hard to do well, generally, or at least have been historically. The character best works to snark back and forth with the Doctor and ultimately be betrayed by the Daleks -- and so he's kind of one-note-ish. At least with characters like the Master, you can have them fucking around and doing all sorts of shit ... Davros is still ultimately a raisin in an electric wheelchair.

That said, I do expect Moffat to have a run with Davros before his time is up.

I think Davros should return at some point for sure. And I like someone's idea on here to have him with the Cybermen, that might be interesting. Or a pre Genesis Davros as someone else suggested would also be fascinating.

I also think just a solo appearance in general would be fun. Or he could create a new race to try and counter the Daleks.
