Fleet Captain
Davros-creator (and sometimes leader) of the Daleks-last appeared in "Journey's End", where he was engulfed in flames. However this was not really seen clearly; Caan or another Dalek could have done the emergency temporal shift thing again. Maybe even Davros had it himself.
Davros of course first appeared in "Genesis of the Daleks" where he was exterminated by his own creations. (The story also retconned or reinterpeted Dalek origins-making them the product of a mad scientist more than mutated survivors of nuclear war) However the last few Dalek stories after that kept bringing him back (as a request of Terry Nation reportedly) to help the Daleks get out of a jam, and eventually leading to a civil war between the Daleks when Davros tried to engineer Daleks loyal to him. Davros also appears in several audio stories which detail his past and fill in some of the gaps between his TV appearences (Like how he became Emperor, survived the Movellan virus etc.) Originally played by Michael Wisher, he was later played by David Gooderson in Destiny of The Daleks (Who wore the same costume as Wisher which wasn't really a good fit) memorably by Terry Molloy in the 80s and the audios, and in the new series by Julian Bleach. It was also revealed he fought early during the Time War, and was saved from it by Dalek Caan.
Of course the first three season's Dalek stories did well without Davros, although he was mentioned in passing a few times (but not by name).
Some people think that having Davros around sort of cheapened the Daleks (With some comparing him to the Borg Queen in First Contact and Voyager), especially since he worked best in Genesis of the Daleks. But it'd be interesting to see him play off Capaldi IMO. I know there was some weird lawsuit where some guy claimed he was the real creator of Davros, but I doubt there was any credit to that.
