Having the fantastic Big Finish series in audio, which is wonderfully and masterfully done, leaves the open question..
Would the Big Finish Audio Dramas make an even greater impact as a series of Direct to DVD animation series?
Now I am not talking about the kind of animation done before by the BBC, which quite frankly those Doctor who animations were subpar, and just not worthy of being added to my collection. It is important to think of Animation as like a particular Artist on a series of comic books. For the purposes of sales, you would want a series that has excellent production, and direction for the animation, superior backgrounds and quality control. In the BBC's animations, they are very much behind in terms of their style, and fluidity, not to mention the fact none of them matched. So collecting them meant you got a one off here, and one off there, and nothing really to say, wow, I would watch that again.
Now suppose the BBC were able to subcontract to various Japanese animation houses, particularly those who produced what is arguably one of the best rendered animations done in the past.. like that of the quality of Macross Plus:

Imagining that level of quality, and a consistent style throughout a collection of DVD releases, with of course the fabulous renderings of the big finish audio CD covers, I can see that as a series and a great sale market for any Doctor Who fan to collect. With Animation improving here in the US, there is another option, as with DC comics animators at Warner Brothers, their style tho very anglo, and western is getting to be on par with those in the Japanese Market, the BBC and Big Finish would very well capture that audience, and in some cases offer a fully animated episode of those fully lost versions in the BBC archives for the serials missing on the troughton years and those in the Hartnell years. The animations placed in the DVDS for the missing episodes where the rest were recovered, were in my humble point of view, horrible, and not worth watching, even telesnap is subpar and not worth the investment, and as such I have not purchased any of those DVDs, rather deciding to go without then subject myself to sometimes horribly grueling sound with not real matching action to go with it.

I believe and wish whole heartedly that if the BBC were to work out a deal with Big Finish, and the Animation companies over seas, or subcontract the work under the BBC or a combined joint venture with Big Finish, they could achieve a wonderful series of Collectable DVDs from which to enjoy the fabulous images of the stories set forth in their audios.
an even added bonus could be a Saturday morning serial 30 minutes, of each broken up episode of a Big Finish audio in that quality animation, and would bring younger kids into the Doctor who fold, outside of the normal live action program.

Again, the tenants would have to be, the series be set in a style of animation on par with something like Macross Plus or better, and consistent IN ALL FUTURE RELEASES IN BOTH QUALITY AND STYLE, with action being a very methodically thought out direction. Big finish audios provides the sound, and either a direct to DVD release, or a half hour TV series for each series for kids on Saturday morning. Big finish could continue it's audio runs, but having a very high quality animation collection to go with their work to give sight to their story visions I feel is a missed opportunity, and I urge the executive directors at both companies to contemplate the idea at the very least.
So, what say you?
