Ships of the Line Calendar 2013

For those who have it already, are the holes in the proper place this year?

I'd also like to know that.

It's horrible in the 2012 calendar, always looks like its falling from the wall every moment; and I didn't want to pierce the genuine holes in it.

Well, I went back and found I'd never removed the shrinkwrap from the 2012 calendar, so hadn't noticed that that one (Andrews & McMeel) and this new one (2013, Universal), have calendar holes that assume it is to be used in a regular wall calendar format, rather than widescreen.

I certainly wouldn't attempt to hang it from these holes. I have seen, in stores, wooden calendar frames, though: in which a commercial calendar can be slid into place each month.

I use my TOS calendar each year. I treat "Ships of the Line" as an annual book, rather than a calendar to display.

Calendar frames? I didn't even know such a thing exists.

Still, hopefully the holes will be in the right place in the upcoming issue. I'd rather not ask my significant other to build/buy something just so that I can hang the calendar in a pleasing fashion.

Concerning the images themselves: The artists depict what's their favourite. Most of them probably grew up with TOS, that's why Kirk's Enterprise(s) happen to be shown from virtually every angle in front of any colourful background.

Personally, I'd like to see more variety across the series, films, etc. Maybe the rest of the Full Circle Fleet or the Enterprise-F from STO?

^Ah yeah, his fleet tender/repair ship. some of us in the comments there suggested he invert the design and have the flat pad as the top of the ship to avoid needing 2 different gravity orientations for the deck layouts.

As I said, the calendar holes are not very functional. Both 2013 and 2012 are landscape, but have the holes halfway down the short sides. Why not use a skirt hanger:

or even a wooden or plastic ruler (for reinforcement behind the top edge) and two alligator clips?

Previously, the "Ship of the Line" calendars had two holes along the top edge, one on each side of the double page spread, and people hated that too.

Curious, I found that solution to practical.

According to my latest Amazon e-mail, the calendar should ship in a few days. Can't wait.

Yeah. That annoyed me as well. I just moved the nails, but it never did really hang right (always kind of sagged). I took it down because I had to put a rat cage in front of it (and it would get wrecked if it stayed there).

Even the regular TOS calendars "kind of sag" these days. The calendars were definitely more sturdy and resilient around the time of TMP (1980), with thicker board covers and stiffer paper.

The ruler-and-bulldog clip method I mentioned earlier was developed by a friend in the late 80s, when the ST calendars shifted to flimsier, but glossier stock. After a full year on display, the curling of the covers is hard to restore if the intention is to save the calendar for posterity/collectibility.

I never hang up the SotL calendars. After all, the date grids are pretty much useless for any actual calendrical purposes, since they aren't even arranged in a 7-day-wide grid. Plus I prefer the kind of calendar I can write on to mark events and appointments and such. I just get SotL for the pictures.

As many of us do. *nods in satisfaction*

Speaking of the subjects of those pix: are the Allegiance from 2012 and the Phalanx from 2013 part of the same starship class?

I like the images in last year's calendar much better. The alternate Enterprise-C and the Insurrection image are outstanding.

I get it just for the pictures too. Between my phone, my watch, and my computer I really have no use for a calender as a calender.
