Sherlock - BBC ONE & HD - Sunday 25th

I didn't see any change in the quality of Doctor Who at all; if I hadn't been told things had changed behind the scenes, it never would have occurred to me.

If the drop in writing/story quality since the Davies days is any indication, he should have plenty of spare time.

I thought series 5 was the best who to date.

Me too. I'm not sure how much I'll enjoy RTDs years when I watch them again.

I know its a family show but I think RTD went a bit too silly at times.
And I know I will get shot down in flames for saying this but was I never a big fan of Eccleston.

I'm loading my gun with incendiary bullets as we speak... ;)

They're both very different writers though, and on the whole I prefer Moffat by a large margin. That said S5 did feel like it was missing something, but by the same token it didn't ever annoy me as much as some aspects of RTD's Who did. At times it seemed to miss the epic bombast that RTD brought, but it also (thankfully!) lacked the depths of silliness/2D characters going "innit" and the need to throw everything plus the kitchen sink in.

Moffat is by far the better writer but RTD is probably the better showman, if that makes any sense at all!

Just saw this on PBS' Masterpiece Mystery,

A little hard to follow in the first few minutes, but A delightful program!

And I've caught up too.

Thoroughly enjoyable series! Some funny lines buried in it. like Holmes asking Watson (with walking stick) where he was injured, and Watson replying, "Left shoulder". While I didn't think Gatiss was Moriarty, I didn't think of Mycroft. And another funny line at the end:
Mycroft:He's always been so resentful. You could imagine the Christmas dinners.
Watson: Yes (pause) No. God, no!

Hope this show rolls on for years! :)

I always took that as a subtle dig at Doyle for Watson's wound moving through out the books.

For me, the whole cabbie as culprit thing was telegraphed from the get go. It seemed more structured like a Columbo in that respect, not a whodunnit, but how he gets caught.

I couldn't take the denouement seriously either, I kept flashing back to the confrontation with the Sicilian in The Princess Bride...

But love the characters, and the update, all of the character stuff really worked well.

YUP!!! That came to my mind so fast, we laughed at it.

This was one of the most enjoyable installments of TV I've seen in some time. Vibrant characters, plenty of humor, an intelligent update, a decent mystery and good action. What struck me was how they managed to instill enough human frailty into Holmes' legendary infallibility (as least as far as deduction is concerned). I thought Watson was handled excellently as well -- he's more than a mere second-fiddle, a distinct danger when crafting a Holmes story.

Brilliant!

Not a bad show, overall. Not Sherlock Holmes, but decent quality. I liked the gimmick of the pop-ups for the cell phones, but they seem to have forgotten it about halfway through.

That is actually from A Study in Scarlet
