Sheesh! That S5 DVD/BD boxset is pricey!

I absolutely loved the fifth, Moffat infused season of nuWho! There are few shows that managed to captivate me like that this year. So buying the series on BD is a no-brainer. Except... it's too damn pricey. It's not that I can't afford it, but it's scandalous how much money the Beeb are asking for this thing. I know they're in some financial difficulties at the moment but this is ridiculous. If you look at some of the WB releaes (around 30-35 quid a season). NuWho is nearly 60 pounds on BD and 50 on DVD! I'm actually wondering if I should wait for the price to drop, and hope that it's going to be anytime soon.

Who else is holding off buying? Or has anyone found it anywhere cheaper?

I'm a new dad, so between that and becoming a single-income family as a result, the cash I've had to spend on DW (and anything else) has taken a serious downfall. I have yet to get the specials on BR, and those have unfortunately not dropped in price at my local Future Shop here in Calgary. The older sets on regular DVD *have* tumbled considerably, which AMLOST makes me wish I'd waited - but back then, I had time to enjoy such delightfully frivolous things. :P

I'm holding off too, but I have done with all the region 2 DW box sets. I like the show, but it can be a little expensive.

As always, I aquire Doctor Who through various alternate means. Then, after about a year once the price has gone down, I'll usually go buy the season. I got Season Three as an Xmas gift. I got Season Four as birthday gift. I refuse to own Season Two (except a few episodes through alternate means) as it's shit. And I just got Season One for $10 off eBay.

So, yeah, I'll be waiting. If it's 60 for you, then it will be $120 for me. It's a shame, though. I'd have loved to support Doctor Who financially. But, until they stop jacking-up the prices to try and squeeze more profit (ala' the TNG/DS9 DVDs packs for the past ten years), I'm not going to bother paying them a dime...

I'm not sure where you're located, but here in Canada and in the US the set is only expected to be about $80, and probably cheaper. (Way cheaper - US$51.99 pre-ordered through Amazon.com)

BBC sets do tend to be more expensive, but I don't mind because in my opinion you get what you pay for. That said, Doctor Who is one of the only series I'll pay that much for. And if the price is too high at your local Best Buy there are always options such as Amazon.

They have been really pricey to be honest, part of the reason I only have S1 as a boxset. Mostly they do come down in price, but for only 13 episodes the price when they come out just ain't worth it.

I've never been bothered about the price of the season sets before and had the Blu-Ray Limited Edition set ordered for about £52. But the extras are a bit lacking compared to previous years, so I cancelled it. I can wait.

The has a point about alternate ways to get your fix. Get others to support your habit or find options to save you money. Then, go all in when they get reasonable with the price.

Yeah I've not been a fan about the price of the Doctor Who box sets, I've been told it is because their imported (have no idea of their UK price). I just get them from the library and erm get a friend to burn them for me.

The price might drop, but the amount of extras wont increase over time. ;)

I might buy the specials, but since MoffatWho I can hardly bare to watch an episode of RTDWho. But even the specials have only dropped 8 pounds in price.

But since I'm weak and love the show, I'll probably buy it. I wish I were stronger.

Guys, please don't discuss "alternative means" in the forum. The boss gets cranky when it happens. :(

What's stingy about the S5 extras? What isn't included in the set this time as compared to past seasons?

I have to buy the DVDs as it's the only way I can view them as I didn't get BBC America. I hope the episodes are worth it.
