She-Ra and the Princesses of Power

I have a feeling that the "anti-She-Ra" female Youtuber in the video posted at the top of the page is ignorant of the fact that Mattel will be producing toys for the show sometime in the near future.

i'm not gonna watch a 40 minute video and then guess what argument you're trying to make.

If you've got something to say say it, this is a discussion forum, not a youtube comment section.
Actually, the comments I want you to hear come in the first few minutes, where she says she has no problem with people who like the new She-Ra -- which according to your first response to me, must be wrong, right?

But, like I said, whatever.

I genuinely have no idea what kind of point you're trying to make.... so like you said, whatever.

I'm the only one who violently dislike people who can express their opinions only with a YouTube video? Do anyone still know how to write something?

I'm thinking about this. If they remade any of my favourite 80s cartoons I probably would feel a little bit the same way as that was the period I grew up in as a teenager but I think I'd let it slide. I don't think I'd be holding onto them as so precious I have to defend them.
I grew up watching Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and the Sonic the Hedgehog cartoons, and while I have not watched every episode of them I have seen at least a few episodes of their more recent shows, I have not had any problems with them. I never expect these thing to be exactly like the old ones, so I'm able to go into them with an open mind and enjoy them as their own things.
I guess I just don't get as emotionally invested in these things, because I've never been able to get as worked up over changes in reboot/remakes and adaptations the way a lot of people seem to. For example, I didn't really like the new Klingon design in Discovery, or the first picture of the toy for the new Mothra. Both times I posted on here a few times about not liking them but I that was as far as it went. Ill kept an open mind and ended really like the Klingon story on Discovery, and the design even kind of grew on me after a while, and I liked what we saw of the new Mothra in the new Godzilla: King of the Monsters trailer.

If anything, my own childhood viewing experiences trained me to see multiple different versions of the same concept as a natural, expected thing. I had three different versions of Batman -- reruns of the '66 sitcom, the Super Friends version, and the Filmation version. Ditto with Super Friends Superman and George Reeves Superman. There was the vintage Spider-Man cartoon and the Nicholas Hammond live-action series. There were Saturday morning cartoon versions of live-action shows like The Brady Bunch and Happy Days, versions that had the same lead actors but obviously couldn't possibly be in the same reality.

Plus, of course, I read books. I knew there was a version of The Hobbit that my father read to me (he loved doing Gollum's and Smaug's voices) and a cartoon version that Rankin-Bass made. I knew there was a book version of Winnie-the-Pooh and a Disney cartoon version. I knew the Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew were in books first and then had a TV series about them. And so on. So I've always understood that different versions of a fictional character or series can coexist, that one doesn't threaten or invalidate the others.

Heck, this was still happening in the '80s and '90s. There were live-action movie versions of Masters of the Universe, TMNT, and others. So many kids from that generation would've been exposed to more than one version of their favorite shows, although some versions weren't as good as others.

I miss that huge mobile base Krang had. It kind of looked cool.

Funny thing over here they had reruns of that series a while back around 130am in the morning and it had a PG rating of all things.

Did that series have a proper ending?

The Technodrome.

Yeah, probably because of the weapons. The censors were always worried about kids emulating the Turtles' weapons, which is why Mikey's nunchakus were replaced in the second movie with a grappling hook or something.

I wouldn't have thought so, but apparently it did. There was a retool to make the show more serious in the last 3 seasons (of 10), and they brought in a new main villain and built things up to a final confrontation. I'd stopped watching by then, so I didn't know about that.

That woman on YouTube is right about the original series looking better. She's also right about the new Glimmer being a pain in the ass. I agree it's unlikely someone morbidly obese like Spinnerella would be much use to anyone in battle but it is a cartoon. The most distracting thing about Glimmer's body isn't her shape but the fact it looks like her knees are constantly bruised. Just what are she and Bow getting up to? :wtf:

Just look at Sammo Hung, he's a big guy, but he still can kick some serious ass.

There definitely are more polite ways you could have gotten your point across.

Morbid obesity has a precise medical definition. Is Spinnerella plausibly morbidly obese, or would she more accurately be called curvy, plus-size, etc.?

Her BMI looks likes it's definitely over 30. That's clinical morbid obesity. On the other hand, she's a cartoon and could be filled with puppy kisses and candy floss for all I know.

And now directing this thread back to what’s important... Is season 2 gonna happen!? I NEED it to happen!

*raises imaginary sword*

“By the honour of Grayskull! I command season 2 to be brought forth so that I can continue to enjoy watching She-Ra and her friends (and foes) be awesome!”

Just trying to lighten the mood from all the pointless bickering. :nyah:
