Shattered universe(Xbox)

Haggis and tatties

So I'm cleaning out a cupboard and i come across the old Xbox, and whats inside it, Shattered Universe, i stopped playing at the level with the Doomsday machine as it seemed impossible......so i fires it all up and give it a go, and you know what, some of the level are not to bad....but i reach this one level and BANG, its the Wormhole scene straight out of the motion picture.....i mean the level is really visually impressive, travelling up the Wormhole with ships attacking from behind and the astariods appearing in front.......very impressive level indeed.......its just a shame the difficulty level is a killer on this game, even on easy.....

I took a few shots(Sorry thay are not crystal clear, its a cheap camera)....Very impressive level indeed.

Well when i first got Shattered universe it did seem a mess to be honest, and the difficulty level in this game is just insane, even on easy it can be difficult to understand just whats going on and who you should help, but some of the levels like the Wormholes one are quite visually impressive, i mean i was blown away when i saw it.

Shame though that the game feels like some levels were made with pride and joy and some were just cobbled together.....

Unfortunately my camera is one of those cheap ass asda ones and is not good at taking moving pictures, and the still pictures don't do the Tunnel effects justice.

I do feel that this is the type of game that if tweaked and upgraded for maybe the 360/PS3 or even the PC it could be quite a good game, although its still a shooter it does feel like a great trek game is just sitting under the surface.

Console-based combat sims almost always seem to be made either for gods or masochists, so Shattered Universe's difficulty curve doesn't surprise me. Anyone ever play Colony Wars: Vengeance or Starlancer? Those two in particular still make me wake up in the night, screaming.

^^^..:lol: Shattered Universe does suffering in various mission from the "Mission failed but you have no idea why" syndrome.

It can have you pulling your hair out at times.

I had that game for the PS2, and it was so f*cking frustrating I nearly threw my controller into the TV on more than a few occasions. I finally gave up at some point, when it had basically just lost any entertainment value because of the difficulty.

IMO pretty much every game should have a "so easy even a chimp could finish it" difficulty level for those of us who don't have 12 hours a day to spend playing levels over and over again but still want to complete a game to see the story play out.

^^^..I can understand you frustration, the other problem on SU is that its not really quite clear in some missions just what you have to do.......take the doomsday mission......Two fed ships towing the dooms day machine towards ships and planets while a klingon ship and small fighter attack your ship........what do you do.......i spent most of my time attacking the klingon ship that was attacking my ship......but every time i destroyed it mission failed......so i attack the fighters....again time ran out and mission failed........so i flew towards the DD machine but on my journey it blew up a star base and i failed, i could not fathom out what was happening.......... the solution......

Fly toward the DD machine but don't get to close to the exploding starbase it destroys or the blast will take you out.........then once at the DD machine destroy the two big fed ships towing it........ then make your way back to your capital ship before the big klingon ship and its fighters destroy it........kill all the fighters and allow the badly damaged klingon ship to escape.......then destroy waves of more fighter launched from a second starbase......then then wait for a new enemy fed ship to appear in front of you, disable its shields and then disable it warp drive so it gets stuck in the path of the slowly moving DD which has been making its way towards you all this time........result is it will explode inside the DD machine disabling it...

So do all that and don't die.......or get caught in any explosions......or do it too slow......oh and don't die.....oh and there is no lock for any on weapons at all.

I mean WHAT..............its was like a Mensa test trying to figure out what you had to do in the mission.

^^ And, of course, since there is no in-mission save function, you have to start all over again every time. And some of the missions are LONG, and of course you die moments before finishing it.

Ugh, I'm getting a headache just thinking about that awful game.

^^Even on the easy setting certain missions just seem impossible, I'm 99% convinced that some mission are just impossible to complete.......anyway to my shame i have had to activate god mode to get by the odd mission.

First time i have ever had to cheat at a Trek game.

I was so frustrated by this game I could never get much further than the mission where you face the M-5 and the four Constitution class ships. The missions really did seem uneccessarily impossible.

Grar!
:rommie:
