Shatner's Role In "Star Trek 2008" leaked

Things could be worse.Daniels and the Federation Temporal thingajigs could be involved.LOL!

Interesting story. I like the other rumor that has Picard in the movie. That's the one that starts out a decade after NEM when the Romulan Star Empire is ready to join the Federation. At the ceremony in which the RSE is being inducted, Picard and Spock meet face to face for the first time since the events depicted in "Unification," in which Picard allowed the Vulcan to meld with him. We see Deanna and Will Riker there and, for the audience's sake, she explains this away in a short line or two. (This was done quite successfully in FC in which the audience is quickly told about Picard's and the Federation's history with the Borg for those unfamiliar with the story.)

While Picard shared his experience of melding with Spock's father, Spock also opened his mind a bit allowing Picard a hint of his friendship with Kirk. Now years later, having since met the legend, fought side-by-side with him, and watched him die, Picard asks Spock about Kirk. Spock finds the two a quiet anteroom where they can talk uninterupted. Spock begins to tell the story of their first meeting but stops abruptly, looks Picard directly in the eye, and smiles subtly. Picard smiles and nods, knowingly. With that silent affirmation, Spock places his fingers on Picard's face in the katra points and begins a concentual meld. With that, the scene fades to the mid 23rd century and the story begins...

As the tale ends, we see a shift in the POV to that of Picard. We see briefly his meeting with Kirk in the nexus and ultimately on Veridian III where Kirk and Jean-Luc foil Soran's plan and stop the destruction of the planet but at the expense of Kirk's life. Picard and Spock experience the loss of their friend all over again and we see them simultaneusly shed a tear. The meld ends quietly with the two men physically and emotionally exhausted. They take only a quick moment to gain their composure and then Spock raises his hand in the traditional Vulcan salute; "Live long and prosper, Jean-Luc." Picard responds, "Peace and long life, my friend." They smile and say nothing else as nothing else need be said. They depart the anteroom returning to the ceremony where they part knowing they will probably never see each other again...The fanfare swells and the credits roll.

That's the one I like. Of course, I wrote it.

Holy crap! I totally thought this thread was a tongue-in-cheek joke.

Then I read the news stories on TT's front page!

Shame on Broccoli! Shame!

Either Starship Polaris took a very lucky guess or he is onto something here.

Starship Polaris can you elaborate on Shatner being in this film? What about all of his denials?

Has Shatner agreed to be in the film or was there a cameo written for him that he has yet to accept?

Or is this simply a best guess on your part?

This is too funny.

I totally made this up as a joke, which was pretty obvious until...about twelve hours ago.

I just remembered Harlan's complaints about the "Crucible" novels and tacked that on as an afterthought.

I must admit I am impressed.

If whatever you are doing now falls through you have a future as a fortune teller.

I found it fascinating that you posted it, and had to give your post some serious consideration, since what you posted was consistent with bits of what I've seen. Connecting the dots and all that...

Now with Ellison... hmmm... I wonder if he's on-track here or if he's getting swept up in the internet rumor mill? ;)

NICE !

What actually happens is .... the Romulans .... assassinate .... Christopher Pike.
This necessitates Spock .... to take drastic and possibly mutinous action ....
The SHOCKER is that Spock first realizes that something's gone wrong with time
when he encounters his old friend James Kirk ....

... Spock has to make the heartwrenching decision to restore history
knowing that in order to put things right, Kirk must die.

When I read that I literally trembled ....

What an absolutely lovely storyline ....
1] A Star Trek fans dream returns after all this time > The Guardian Of Forever.
2] James T. Kirk is revived in a perfectly reasonable way.
3] William Shatner & Leonard Nimoy get to appear one final time together in way that is both
joyous & logically tragic & final
4] Spock's dilemma ties in with Kirk's dilemma when he was faced with the very same choice -- he must allow someone he adores to die.
Only this time he must be the one to die with somone who adores him to be the decisionmaker.
5] The Kirk/Spock -- Kirk/Keeler friendship/love/classic story/classic reunion all ties in.

If this is all true this movie'll break science fiction movie boxoffice records, I think.

:)

Re: NICE !

Probably what will convince me that this is true is if The Shat stops whining publicly to anyone who will listen. They'll still need to address why Spock knows there's a problem when no one else does. Why would he be exempt/protected from changes in the timeline? The temporal wake explanation for Picard & Crew in FC was plausible. They'll need something along those lines to make it work.

Re: NICE !

The Shat will never stop whining. It gets him and the film free publicity. That's all part of the plan. When the free publicity ride dies down, The Shat will announce he's in the movie and a new round of free publicity will start up.

Spock knows something is different because of all the time he spends in his space/time sensory deprivation tank to treat Bendii syndrome. The space/time sensory deprivation tank creates a warp bubble that isolates Spock from the rest of space/time so that he would be immune to all exterior changes.

Re: NICE !

Well, despite the claim that Dennis made this up, above, there are a number of parallels to what's really going on and it really WOULD make an excellent story. I'd be very pleased indeed if this were, in fact, the story we were being told here.

This falls into the same category as "Vektor's April Fool's Day Picture." A joke that's better than most of what we've REALLY gotten for a long time.

I'm critical of Dennis's attitude from time to time... and all that... but he's a damned talented modeler and this shows that he can come up with good ideas for stories, too. I'm not a fan of "Tin Man" but if this were made into a real Trek story, I think it would be one of my favorites.

Re: NICE !

Shatner's behavior is not part of a publicity campaign for the movie, and the folks making the movie aren't happy about his public unhappiness. To the extent that JBElliot or anyone else thinks otherwise, they're wrong.

It is that simple.

Re: NICE !

There are two t's in the name and I'm correct. It's as clear as the nose on your face that that's what's happening.
