Shatner's Role In "Star Trek 2008" leaked

I don't thimk that is going to happen. To me it just only a rumor. Plus there isn't any report that Shatner will be in the movie itself. Also Spock himself woundn't even know that the time line had change. Spock traveling threw time maybe. But there will be someother reason why that he is going. Then again for that to happen. Spock himself would have to be to cause of the time change.
Spock has to find out on Romulus while during reunification. Either he gets word by the underground that they went back and assasinated Pike using the temporal transporter that we saw in Enterprise used by Future Guy who might be Nero. Spock then travels to the Guardian planet to use it to contact young spock or he uses the temporal transporter. it one of the two. I read over at trekmovie.com from a source that a tempral transporter was built on the set.

Basically, the "Romulans kill Kirk" storyline is disinformation. What actually happens is this: the Romulans do assassinate someone in the past, but it's Christopher Pike. This necessitates Spock contacting himself at an early point in his own career and convincing him somehow to take drastic and possibly mutinous action in order to keep Pike out of a certain (undisclosed) situation at the film's climax.

The SHOCKER is that Spock first realizes that something's gone wrong with time when he encounters his old friend James Kirk - alive nearly a century after he died on the Enterprise B.

So basically Spock has to make the heartwrenching decision to restore history knowing that in order to put things right, Kirk must die.

Neat idea.

One MAJOR flaw.

Why wouldn't Spock save Pike and Kirk? It would only be logical for him to do so.

Well, there you're getting into the role that the Nexus plays in both Spock's mental time-travel and the Pike-era part of the storyline. I can't talk about that. ;)

They are going to use the Nexus?

So much for appealing to the general public. I much more prefer the Guardian or a star slingshot than going back to that.

Anyhow Spock would find a way to save both.

Actually, if we've got to have evil time travelling murderers in "Star Trek", your idea is the best I've heard for setting that up. And I quite like the idea that the only difference Spock notices is that Jim is still alive. It's a nice (and unusual in sci fi) nod to the fact that messing with the past could produce a positive outcome or two, as well as nuclear holocausts and plagues.
It does bear the question though that if that was really the only thing Spock noticed had changed, why did the Romulans bother killing Pike in the first place? what did it achieve?

My goodness, how far has Star Trek fallen that people actually seem to believe a very obvious joke is the real plot of the movie?

This just jumped out at me. Are you intimating that Old Spock is going to mind-meld with his younger self?
Nonsense. He's going to use the power of his mind to transpose his Old Spock brain into Younger Spock's Body. Then Nimoy and Quinto carry on Old/Young Spock conversations in his brain, like Crichton and Harvey. Old Spock will amuse us by making allusions to all the hit Vulcan sitcoms, like Advanced Logical Positivism and Disciplined Emotional Repression. :)

The needs of the many outweigh the needs of The One.

Paraphrasing Nimony to Shatner in one of their recent appearances together.

'If I had been in Generations, Kirk would not have died.'

Nor would he allow it in ST XI. ;)

If true, my apologies as I am a newbie and don't have a read on poster's predilictions to humour.

Not to ruin Dennis's fun ;) but I have done posts similar to this on other sites. It always amazes some people treat these tongue in cheek threads seriously! Not just believing them but usually followed by immediate anger. As if anything posted online most be given serious consideration and moral outrage. But that is the great fun of it! :rommie:

"The Shatner Must and Will be in STAR TREK 2008" folks don't fret! You can continue to believe this through out production and release. If his scenes are such a big secret, they can maintain that secret for a long time. Even Shatner not being in the theatrical release is not the end - He will be in a Director's Cut on DVD! Yes, yes, that is it! It will be great for DVD sales! If not on the first DVD? Well I am sure they will release his scenes eventually! With that strategy your denial can last forever.

If Kirk doesn't seemingly die on the ENT B, then Picard wouldn't be able to get his help to defeat Dr. Soran, and the Veridian sun would have been destroyed along with Picard and the crew of the ENT D. :brickwall: This can't happen, and I think this is why William Shatner cannot possibly reprise his role as Kirk in the movie.

Long live Captain Picard!!!

No, Shatner's appearance will be only in the Blu-Ray version.

Disciplined Emotional Repression was GREAT until season 5. The decision to throw in a token Romulan was a big mistake. "Oooh look....he's getting all angry again"....*snooze*

Tell me about it. At least Advanced Logical Positivism kept itself locked in rigorous intellectual discourse.

S03EP14 ("Episode 14 of Season 3", to give it it's proper name) was a highlight. I've never seen such logical inference.

Compelling.
