News #shatnerforapril

No to Shatner and no to Kirk. Kirk is an Lt. at this point at best and more than likely just a cadet. I don't want to see anyone from TOS in this show. I'd rather a wonderful seperate experience that doesn't try to jerk off the Original Series for no real reason other than leading into it ten years down the road. As for Good Ole Bill at this point no one would see him other than as Kirk and him playing some other legend type captain/admiral would only spark more flame and would eat production budget like no tomorrow for an actor well out of his prime.

As for the seeing other actors for Captains/Fleet Captains/Admirals that have "canon" history already in Trek I'd prefer see guys like Stephen Amell, Johnny Galecki, or Nikolaj Coster-Waldau. Some good TV actors that could easily fulfill cameo roles on screen.

As mentioned before, Jim Kirk died in Star Trek Generations and George Kirk is either serving on the Kelvin (or got transferred to his own command). The only way Shatner would make sense is playing George's father, with whom Shatner would be the perfect age. Either have him be an admiral in Starfleet or the captain of his own freighter (being attacked by Klingons). If they HAVE to bring Jim Kirk onto Discovery, I'd prefer it to be Chris Pine. Also, Shatner as April would be terrible.

Chris Pine can play Kirk

Never going to happen. They are not going to mix movie and tv actors together. They could have brough back Ben Cross and Winona Ryder as Spock and Amanda Grayson, but they recast both. If Spock or Kirk make appearance they will be played by different actors than in the movies.

I wouldn't want to see Shatner playing someone else. It would just pull me right out of the episode because we wouldn't be seeing whatever character he was supposed to be playing, such as April or whomever. In Star Trek, he'll always be Kirk, and should always be Kirk.

Chris Pine can play Kirk

That's not a bad idea. He's grown on me since 2009. I loved his turn in Hell and High Water. And his take on Kirk wasn't bad considering how badly he was written for the first two movies. If they really need to, I'd rather he play Kirk than some other actor.

Shatner's voice has changed too much.

I think he could do it but he'd have to sort of forcibly try to recreate a more youthful, higher pitched, more fast-paced, clipped delivery. He could not just play the part like he did in VI or Generations.

I'd always hoped that Shatner would return with the others to refilm their aged scenes for a special edition deadly years.

The Deadly Years rapidly aged him starting from the vantage point of his fit frame. Only if Shatner hadn't gained so much weight would his appearance make sense.

Shatner can play the Priceline Guy, except he fell into a vortex of savings, and got sucked out of space-and-time. Hey, it makes at least as much sense as the Nexus Ribbon.

I don't think Star Trek really would need to overly explain it.

"Are you alright?"

"I've been dead once, so this is nothing."

I remind people Kirk personally knows someone who came back from the dead.

:)

I don't care who he plays as long as they write a scene were Shatperson and Lorca are in Lorca's ready room smashing aggressively smashing fortune cookies, pretending to read them, but actually shouting quippy insults at each other.
