Let's hope not; both men have done their bit, and need to let the new incarnations of the characters they played stand on their own merits.
I could go either way on it. If they're in it, grand! Like others here have said, I, too, hope that it's not just some gimmick of stunt-casting and that their involvement is meaningful to the plot. Shatner has a history of saying "no cameos" for just that reason, and Nimoy turned down Generations out of a similar philosophy, and he was right. Spock's minor role was fully satisfied by Chekov and/or Scotty's presence and didn't detract from the overall plot.
If they couldn't come to an agreement and they're not in it, oh well. I still hope we get a good script.
My head's still spinning from Pegg being announced as writer. I certainly like him as an actor and I've seen some of the other things he's written & directed; I guess I'm still on the fence if he can write Trek. At least he's familiar with the process - I will reserve judgment until others begin to vilify leaked information from the set!![]()
I don't think anyone is advocating that the new movie turn into the Shatner-Nimoy reunion special.
I'd be happy with a meaningful cameo.
A lot of people were not pleased with Nimoy's cameo in STID and, while I understand he wasn't given anything deep as in ST09, it was still a treat to see him as Spock.
Truthfully, when I left the theater after ST09, I loved the movie but I was also slightly sad that we may not see Nimoy-Spock again, but we did. And I was pleased.
Oh, I totally get it.
Believe me, I understand the logic of that point of view, but I guess I'm looking at it through different lenses:
Nimoy is in his 80s, I'll take whatever amount of Nimoy-Spock I can get...even if it's indulgent.
So as far as I'm concerned, be damned with logic, scripts, Academy Awards or whatever you want to throw at me...if Shatner and Nimoy play Kirk and Spock, I'll forgive ANYTHING you put it front of me.
Want to make them the stars? Great. Want to give them supporting roles? Bring it on. Want to give them meaningful cameos? Awesome. Want to have them read phone books? I'll take it!
Whatever they want to do.
Including another Star Trek V.
But don't get me wrong...obviously, I prefer a kickass script.![]()
The reason why some where not pleased with nimoy appearance was because it was not necessary. in fact that little screen time they gave to nimoy could have gone to bones.
Nimoy was excellent in trek 09 and he passed the touch to the new cast with style and grace to keep having him back will just make everything kind of corny
Plus, there were so many people who expected Kirk or Spock to go to PrimeSpock for his future knowledge in the second movie, it would've been called a plot hole by many, if it hadn't been addressedI thought Nimoy in Into Darkness was absolutely necessary, it upped the stakes by revealing Khan's nature while Kirk was on the other ship with him. I suppose there's other ways to do it, but this was a powerful one.
Nah. First time Nu!Kirk tried the Retinax eye medicine that his prime counterpart was allergic to, one of the reactions was spontaneous eye color change. However, they will have to have Shatner wear blue contact lenses, to keep continuity accurate for the alternate reality.
