Shatner: "I hope that movie bombs"

I took a look at the link. Is there anything else to confirm this? I hope this is bogus, otherwise I lose a lot of respect for Shatner and hope he keeps his distance from the movie.

After doing some more thinking, it's really sad if this is true for a couple of reasons.
1) It shows that Shatner is really, really bitter and doesn't want to see the franchise revived unless it's with him.
2) How many Shatner supporters are going to defend these comments and even support them?

For some strange reason, the thought of Leonard Nimoy beginning his Spock scenes yesterday makes me feel all warm and cozy inside.

I'll wait for some sort of confirmation...but if this is true, it really is an incredibly bitter remark.
I mean, it's not like Star Trek hasn't been GREAT to him over the years....and it's not like he is in such great shape in any event. And finally, it's not like he needs the work....or the publicity. He has been a huge success on Boston Legal, and he 'has his'. Time to give someone else a chance.
Sour grapes from the super-rich (and especially coming from someone who could easily benefit if Trek gains a whole new generation of viewers from this film) is REALLY unbecoming.

Shatner has no interest in teh 'franchise' beyond receiving another paycheck - and a paycheck that meets his price. Did you see him raise a fuss back when Nimoy reprised 'Mr. Spock' for the TNG episode Unification II? Nope.
And when ENT producers were interested in having him appear on Enterprise; the problem wasn't the script; it was meeting his proposed fee that nixed the deal.
Now, is William Shatner necessarily a 'bad guy' for thinking this way? Honestly, I don't think so as Paramount has made a ton of cash over the years; and while Shatner definitely (and finally) got a bigger taste of that from the six TOS and one TNG film he appeared in - he [probably still feels 'owed' for all the days he spent living out of his truck and doing margerine commercials. Still, he has no one to blame but himself for agreeing to appear in a film where Kirk is killed off.
Finally, he COULD have said it in jest too. It would'nt be teh first time in recent memory that William Shatner tried to be 'funny'.
If this is true, it's really really befuddling since Shatner is far and away (and presently) the most successful of the original cast post-Trek. And he's finally got a role that isn't overshadowed by Kirk.

I don't think that Shatner is a bad guy at all. He may be a bit full of himself (or a lot), but he is not a bad guy. He is a good comedic actor -- yes, he has a decent acting range, but I think comedy is what he does best.
You're right in pointing out that it might have been a sarcastic remark or an attempt to be funny. You put it on paper and you take away the intent. Who knows? Only time will tell.

Especially with the bit about him having a role right now that is not overshadowed by Captain Kirk. Most scifi actors can only DREAM of being as successful as Shatner has been outside the genre.Well, hopefully we will find out that this was a joke or some remark taken out of context or something.

Personally, I like the Shatman. But I have to be honest here. I really do not want him in this movie, for the very simple reason that he hasn't taken the role of James Kirk seriously, I mean really seriously, since TWOK at best. That was a long time ago. Sorry, Willy, but it's time to hand the torch to someone else.
A gift (if it is one) Shatner has is he can sound incredibly sincere when he isn't. Then, he compounds things by being silent and letting folks make up their own minds about what he meant.

I don't buy it... especially when it looks like he is going to get his cameo. He is not the type to shoot the cash cow.
