Shameless series 8

Bob The Skutter

Complete Arse Cleft
In Memoriam
Although series 7 of Shameless has yet to air Channel 4 have apparently commissioned series 8 and upped the order from 16 episodes to 22 episodes.

I guess since they build a permanent set for it they're confident in the long term viability of the show, I'm just surprised that since Channel 4 are struggling a bit they can afford to do a 22 episode run.

Broadcast are reporting it but there's no real details and unless you're a subscriber you can only read the headline.

22? Geez. I love Shameless but to be honest 16 is too many already. Always something to look forward to though, and often it doesn't matter if you miss one or two either.

Few dramas I know survive nearly the entire original cast leaving and retain the same quality Shameless has. How many are left of the main cast now? Frank, Karen, Debbie, Liam, Carl, Yvonne, whatshisname the policeman... not many at all.

Speaking of characters departing, last series' finale was... disturbing. And sad. Of all the people to kill... :(

I've never actually been in to Shameless, I'm thinking of trying it again though. I just thought some people round here might be interested in the news.

Personally I'm glad that British TV are starting to experiment a bit more with series formats and lengths. We're getting everything from one offs to 3 parters, to 5 parts striped across a week, to now 22 episodes. More variety the better in my eyes.

As long as the quality is there, I'm all for it. I loved that S6 was 16 episodes long - I could watch that show forever and never get bored.
