He didn't make it alone. And as vile as he is, I can dissassociate him from whatever he was part on. His Shada was great, and I enjoyed it enormously in 2013 when I saw it.

Like I half-jokingly suggested, if we pretend he's the Curator it makes as much sense as anything.

The last line is the Doctor wondering if people might one day regard him as a nice old man, so old Tom delivering it works in a magic realist way.

Cool addition although I wish it was left as a surprise. Still, pretty exciting. Just a shame us Americans have to wait until January for the release. :(

The release is region free, so you could always order it from amazon.co.uk like I did. Plus, I haven’t seen the Limited Edition Steelbook Blu-ray listed on amazon.com, which was definitely the version I wanted to pick up.

Given the huge amount of free publicity it's got them over the past few days that would have been crazy.

Is it region free for both blu-ray and DVD or just blu-Ray? I'm planning to get it as a DVD.

Yeah, I know it was wishful thinking, but you can't blame a guy for hoping, right?

Unfortunately, it appears only the blu-ray is region free. I’m not sure of the logic behind region-locking the DVD and not the blu-ray, but there you have it.

I can’t find a blu-ray version listed on amazon (US), so perhaps there aren’t any plans to release the blu-ray in the US - which could possibly explain why the blu-ray on amazon.co.uk is region free?

And for those in the UK, the digital version has already been released on iTunes. I don’t know if a digital version will pop up on the US iTunes Store in 2018 or not.

I went with the region free limited edition blu-ray steelbook for the bonus disk which contains both the 1992 VHS Tom Baker linking narration version of Shada, and the 2003 Paul McGann webcast version.

I look forward to watching the different versions. I’ve only ever read the novelization of Shada.

Pity they're only including the Baker linking narration and the McGann webcast on the limited edition, but I'm not too bothered since I already own the latter on CD.

I continue to loathe region locking media. Absolutely infuriating. I guess I'll be waiting until January after all.

What the fuck?! :scream:  :scream:

The (presumable) reasoning behind it makes this change all the worse, especially considering it's already out in the United Kingdom. Amazon previously listed it as January 2018 and I was about to pre-order it in a few days. Ugh, I hate this kind of bullshit.

I got to admit, this one's a head scratcher for me too. By delaying the North American release for ten months to a year, someone's going to resort to piracy. Indeed, wasn't it an attempt to combat piracy that the show gradually got American airdates not long after the British ones ultimately leading to the same day broadcast we now have?

Yeah, I believe so. Hell, I've never understood the long delays for the R1 and R4 releases. I guess it was some misplaced sense of exclusivity for R2 buyers, but that just highlighted my extreme annoyance with regional DVDs that I've had for many years and not limited to Doctor Who releases. Like you suggested, I think this will really shoot themselves in the foot. Hell, I already thought it was a dumb idea to wait until January for the R1 release, thus missing the Christmas present option for some fans, an option that's completely available for R2 buyers.

Now, see, that's why I was looking forward to the January release, I could use a gift card to pay for it.

Heh, fair enough. I'm not expecting to get any gift cards but you never know...

So aggravating. Stupid move. Are they trying to piss the fans off? Just over a month from now to just over a year from now. Aargh.

Alright, I ordered the region free Blu-ray from Amazon.co.uk. No willpower to resist! Should be arriving in the first half of December . . . of this year!
