Baby's fate was rather smug but it's an understandable way to keep the ball bouncing I suppose.

Chloe's leg getting better was surprisingly abrupt but it clearly is the start of a plot thread.

They have sensibly brought in some new characters to justify some enhanced friction among the crew. In some ways it's a shame as the new blood may overshadow the existing characters some of whom just needed a chance to grow. I hope that the supporting cast will still get some air time alongside the new characters.

The problem I had was that this episode introduced two Lucian Alliance characters (Robert Knepper and the redhead) who weren't in the finale arc last year. We saw them all in the gate room when they arrived, where were these two hiding?

^^I think we should stop fixating on Knepper and McNiven. If 2 actors that were unknown to most of us had been cast, I don't think anyone would be questioning why they weren't seen in the cliffhanger. A contingent of LA'ers came through the gate, and they were part of that group.

But we're tripping over Knepper because we know he's a great actor, and we want to see him now, and it's kinda unfair to focus so intently on the why didn't we see him last season. A couple of top dogs have bought the space farm, and their juniors are stepping up.

Thing is, Knepper's character anyway is implied to be one of the "top dogs" of the group. Telford recognized him, so you would think he must be important to have been in regular contact with their spy. Plus, the early casting information described him as the "Lucian Alliance's version of Dr. Rush." If such a description is accurate, one has to wonder why Kiva didn't have him working with Rush when they were still in the pyramid?

Meanwhile, I've never heard of the actress playing the redhead, and neither has a friend of mine. But when me and him were discussing the episode, one of his first complaints was that she definately wasn't there last year. So this isn't a matter of "actor recognition." Rest assured, if they introduce another Lucian Alliance character, regardless of if they're played by a known or unknown actor, I will complain about that too.

It's a silly complaint in the grand scheme of things. Central characters have been recast in the past and just because modern writers tend to avoid this by introducing new characters doesn't mean it isn't a viable and sometimes necessary practice.

The characters being played by the actors had no significant purpose in the finale but are going to be re-used in this season. Personally I hope they spice things up.

-Musical montage
-Sequences on the planet with TJ and the new-age mystics drag the episode to a halt. The baby should have died. Move on.
-This show won't have any "harsh reality" as long as the Lucian Alliance is onboard. They're cartoon characters.
-Chloe is still useless. She is able to instantly heal and still she doesn't do anything except be a hostage (and nobody onboard the ship seems to care).
-Kiva dies off-screen (guess they couldn't bring back Rona Mitra--what a complete waste).

+With the exception of the dream-planet, the episode managed to mantain a brisk pace.
+Telford is alive.
+Scott and Greer survive by using their brains in the teaser.

Either the baby did die and TJ just thinks she went to heaven, the Eden planet, or nobody cares about the youngest person on board disappearing :cardie:
