[...] what's surprising is his apparent reticence about committing to Chloe.
I'm not too surprised by that. In a previous episode (the name of which I can't currently recall), he questioned Chloe if she thought they'd still be together if they weren't on Destiny. While it seemed more like he was questioning her commitment, I thought the scene opened the door to exploring whether or not he was.

On that note, I think Eli just got way the fuck over her real fast. Even if he finds out that she had reason to believe she'd be immune to plants, there's probably nothing that can overcome that initial feeling of "Holy shit, she really loves him that much" when it looked like she'd killed herself to be with him for a few more minutes. Hopefully, there's some young, technically-oriented, available woman on the ship to be his new special, frustrating friend.

- Flamethrowers? Next we’ll see they were able to get the sink from the Icarus galley before they left.

I'm glad somebody else noticed that. In fact, until they showed us the alien "plants," I thought it was an edit back into the dream reality, it made so little sense.

5. Uggh. Pretty dire. Hallucinations did have anything to do with what was going on and not much to do with the real characters. The resolution was pretty obvious. And, it seemed mostly like an excuse to have Scott become an alien too.

Just nothing going in this one. Dullsville would've been a better title! I think the series is running out of ideas.

Well, Greer did cobble together a flame thrower using aerosol cans in Water, but the ones in this episode looked like they were built on Earth or something.

This wasn't very good but it wasn't as awful as I expected based on the opinions here.

I'm sure the actors enjoyed doing this show--that's really why you get these "altered universe"-type stories. The actors want more challenging work and this is one way to do it.

Chloe is an idiot but I don't get the hate for Scott/Chloe. It's been part of the show from early on, I think everybody better get used to it.

I do like that there will be consequences to Chloe's actions. I'm also glad they didn't drag out Rush's "cure" ruse for a bunch of episodes--it was all moot the very next week! :p

- At least they found a good role for James in Matt’s dream: Hooter’s waitress!

And former squeeze of Matt. :)

And, it should be noted, one who -- in his subconscious -- he still wanted to get it on with (as long as his "regular" girlfriend/fiancee didn't know).

Hmm. Not a bad episode, though not much story-wise happened except for Scott now being an alien too. I liked how his hallucinations showed the way he views everyone else. I think Hallucination!Brody was my favorite. "It's true, I almost killed him. Ran him right over." Interesting glimpse sideways. Also interesting to see how Scott views Rush, like the thing that bothers him most is how much Rush dislikes Young. Other than that he really seemed to value what Rush said for some reason. Rush was awesome in both universes. He didn't come across nearly as jerkish as I thought he would when it came to taking Scott's arm off, everyone else agreed with him. Didn't really expect that but it makes sense.
There was no montage! Yay! And they have flamethrowers. Maybe the Lucians brought them?
Excited to see where the Chloe-and-Scott-as-alien-pawns story goes. Will we see the Blue Manfish Group again?

My response to this episode; "WTF were they smoking in the writing room when this got pitched."

And, I hope we don't get too many returns to 'Planet Canada' again - I thought they were moving away from filming the Vacouver woods. ;)

Well, when a good show does stupid dream state episodes like this it's usually pretty bad. When SGU does it it's complete horseshit. 1/10.

There's really not much else to say, there'd be even no joy in typing up a lengthy post bashing it. Trust me, it has to be really bad to rob me of that. On the bright side whatever is on next week has to be better than that.

I kept waiting for the dream portion to be related to the venom of the plant/animal spore thingy. Like it used the venom to induce the dream state in order to take over the host or something like that. But instead we got too see our characters in even less interesting scenes which I didn't think was possible.
It all boils down to the characters and with a few exceptions these are just not that interesting. SG1 had a small cast of distinct characters that you could root for. SGU has too many thin personalities.
Speaking of SG1, they used to go out and explore and occasionally kick some ass. These guys seem so friggin helpless. I realize the situation is different but it's getting old. Carter would have figured out how to fly that ship by now.

Rush already knows how to control the ship but that won't get them home at any rate.

WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT?!?!?!?!

Seriously, this episode was just downright terrible. I was initially skeptical of this one, trailers made it seem like SG-1's The Changeling, which itself was compared to DS9's Far Beyond the Stars. But after seeing it all I can say is that both Far Beyond the Stars and The Changeling were excellent episodes and works of art compared to this thing.

One thing fundamentally wrong here is that so far in the series I have had no reason to give a shit about Scott. He's been a bland and generic nice guy who sleeps with every girl around. That's it. So really, the fact that he's got some weird alien thing happening to him does not interest me at all.

And then we get to alternate reality dreamland, where he's even more bland and generic living in a bland and generic small town where we see everyone be bland and generic versions of their characters. What I'm trying to say is that things were bland and generic. Hell even the self-parody of the show (the movie Scott and Chloe saw) was terrible and boring. This show sucks even when its making fun of itself!

The parallells between reality and dreamland were just too obvious. Eli is the camera geek, Brody is the bartender, Telford stirs shit up, Rush is vague and enigmatic, and so on. But really, what was the point to dreamland? In The Changeling it explored Teal'c's subconcious, in Far Beyond the Stars it was to make social commentary about racism. But here? Nothing. We learn nothing about Scott, no statements were made about anything. I think they realized Scott moaning in pain in Vancouver's pine forest with his arm in a blue shell wouldn't fill 45 minutes so they pulled dreamland out of their ass to pad the episode out.

It's not like anything interesting or relevant happened in dreamland anyway. It's pretty much the same old melodramatic drivel we've come to expect from this show, just with the characters acting slightly different than usual. Rush and Telford's cryptic comments didn't really amount to anything and only served to provide something for the trailers to make the episode sound interesting.

Speaking of making the trailers interesting, I remember the season trailer had an image of Chloe with her face all weird from teh wedding scene, implying this was a stage in her transformation. Yet here we see it as part of a dream sequence. Disappointing.

As for the real world story, I can't help but wonder that if Chloe or Rush were using their brains, the blood transfusion could have been done a lot sooner and things could have been resolved that much quicker. I suppose Rush wanted to cover his ass, but you'd think Chloe would want to try anything to save Scott. In the end the only thing of consequence is that Scott now has Chloe's Sombreroid abilities. Whoopity-fuckity-doo-dah.

About the only good thing I can say about the episode:
-Cool visuals with Greer and the other guys shooting flamethrowers.
-No montage.
-The women looked better than usual in dreamland.

Overall, I am not impressed at all. Move over Emancipation, the Stargate franchise has a new worst episode.

I had already seen the clip where Lt. Scott almost got his arm cut off, so it wasn't as intense when I saw the episode, but it was a good scene. It would have been something if they had actually gone through with the amputation.

I dunno, but Chloe is stunning in that photo.
Yeah, she is. Didn't even recognize her when I saw the photo.

Was it the same city/set where they shoot Smallville?
Maybe Scott watched Smallville.

Almost felt like an SG-1 Or Atlantis episode.
Yeah, it did. This wasn't totally appropriate for SGU.

After seeing this post, I couldn't think of anyone on the Ship Eli could get with.

Then I saw the following posts...

The Lucian Alliance chick, perhaps?

ding ding ding!!!!!!
Yep. She could work. ...on him!

Chloe's constant pining for Lt. Scott is too immature teenage girlish. That's not who Eli needs.

At least they found a good role for James in Matt’s dream: Hooter’s waitress!
Yes. Seeing her in a tight shirt and skirt with her hair down was a real treat. This was almost as good as when she was in her undies in the hallway last season. More eye candy please.

Oh yeah... Seeing Greer having fun with the flame thrower was a hoot.

Not great, but I don't think it was any worse than the other episodes of season 2, maybe a bit better.

The episode was a bit stilted but I kind of like how Chloe is gradually becoming this unnaturally calm, almost dead-eyed character because at least it is some kind of evolution. It does feel as though the drama is behind a wall of fog and they just need to lift it a bit more and crank up the pace about two notches.

Park is still becoming my favourite of the supporting scientists - she's obviously a biologist, which explains at least why she can barely work the ships systems, and it was nice to hear her sound like she actually knows something. Of all the supporting cast she seems to be the one who could branch off in a multitude of interesting directions so I hope her higher profile remains.

I haven't read the whole thread so sorry if I'm repeating anyone else, but this ep was shot in Cloverdale, BC the town I grew up in. The Clova movie theatre is a small family run theatre that still runs double bills for 7 or 8 bucks. Nice to see my hometown get some rep.

Smallville fans will also recognize it as "smallville." :)
