I loved the Destiny/Pentagon part of the show.
They could have gone without the Eli/Chloe parts.
Having Chloe constantly say that she's useless better mean that she'll actively try and change that.

I think Chole growing up is her arc or at least I hope it is. Right now other than looking good and whining she doesn't have a lot to do.

Best episode since the pilot. Finally the characters got to actually be agents of their own destiny instead of just along for the ride.

Plus the episode finally made me warm up significantly to the Young character.

Great episode! I'm really liking SG:U.

The bad? That 80's singer in the bar. :shudder: 80's flashbacks are never fun.

During the whole club scene (aka "lets bring in younger viewers by showing a trendy band or music style") my entire thought was "WTF does this have to do with Stargate??" That brought it down a lot.

But seeing Jack was good, and RDA looked a LOT better in this ep than he did in the pilot.

Most unrealistic moment: OIC chick (Ms. Na) refusing a hot dog. She's been eating mush for weeks. Does anyone think she'd turn down REAL food with REAL flavor? Especially something like a hot dog?
Call it a character moment. As an older woman, compared to the rest of the characters, she refused to abuse the body of her host as the other characters did. I wouldn't be surprised if down the line she turns up to be a rape victim or something along those lines.

I love the fact that the franchise being flexable enough to have space battles, a motocycle chase like we had in Momento Mori and a club scene like they had here.

That would be my thought as well.

Two young people got a chance to get off a dingy ship and see home again. It was part of the story.

Re: SG-U – Earth (1x07) - (Discuss – Grade | SPOILERS)

I lose interest when they do the whole body swap thing. One, I don't generally care for the Earthside stuff, I'd rather they stay with the ship. I have a hard time suspending disbelief with these things as well, I mean the gates make a crazy connection as well but at least they require a lot of power and effort to connect. Finally, I find it really confusing seeing the normal actors but trying to think it's someone else really.

That said, would anyone want to turn their body over to someone else? They should have some protocols and standards and probably an escort to keep checks on what they do with these people. You come back and now you have HIV, congratulations!

Not my cup of tea...

Didn't carry that sense of wonder found in a couple of previous episodes.
Yeah, I'll admit that the part where the Destiny dipped into the sun for another recharge should have been grander. Sure, it's now a known part of the ship's cycle, but they could have given us a little more than a quick gloss-over.

Oh, and turning Young's final speech into a cheap, melodramatic moment with Eli lusting over Chloe was just wrong. Took everything out of an okay scene.
I liked that. Rather than have us sit through another big speech, they gave us the important sound bites, then cut to Eli doing a bit of editing, complete with some character quirks.

So so episode. I would have much rather it focused more mon the ship side of the story than the Earth stuff.

I liked it. I like the Earth stuff in terms of how the show is executing it. Folks need to consider these points:

1. Without the Earth visits the show would quickly become a true BSG clone. People on Destiny would have no psychological outlet and go stark raving mad even faster.

2. The stones allow for a dynamic different from most shows, such as BSG or Lost. Typically flashbacks are used - and highly abused - to allow for a change of scene and external character development. Here, we have a unique angle.

3. Like the stones or not, the writers are, so far, being careful and avoiding sloppy, cheap storytelling. We see many limitations and psychological consequences of using the stones. The downsides of the Earth visits are becoming more apparent, and they brought up the specter of how a body swap can be abused to trap someone on Earth and let another person screw with the Destiny crew. Also, the FTL interrupt of stones was seeded quite intentionally (and used well IMHO). Mark my words: somebody is gonna die when an interrupt occurs at the exact wrong moment. (They also seeded the idea that if a body on one end dies, both subjects perish.)

Hopefully she'll stop trying to fill that void in her life with Penis...

So did Telford at the end go to Young's wife's house to get him some, pretending to be Young?

(They also seeded the idea that if a body on one end dies, both subjects perish.)

No, they've only confirmed that the consciousness would die if its original body dies. Vala survived when the body of her host died. In other words, you're only risking the other person's life if you enter a dangerous situation while controlling another person's body.

No, she didn't. Vala's body died when her host was burned at the stake (and was revived when the Prior healed the host).
