Spoilers SFA Ships & Tech

The end was cut off when I noticed it so I’m not sure, but I thought it was “Veni, Vidi, Venari [Ral].”

Nothing new, PIC had evil tricorders which were Samsung Flips.

The irony is that with the custom cases, 32nd Century PADDs are way thicker and have a smaller screen to surface ratio than a typical tablet devices today. Most sci-fi shows that leverage modern screen devices with custom built cases have that sort of issue.

I'm currently rewatching the show with my wife. Additional random notes:

- It hasn't been pointed out in this thread, but the Academy-class is visually most similar to the Friendship-class starship, with a saucer trailed by two separate nacelles, negative space in the saucer, and a proportionately flat appearance. I wonder if this suggests the Friendship (and by extension the Antares) are more recent Starfleet designs which have evolved into the Academy-class. As far as we know, the Academy-class is the only ship that was developed post-burn, and even that isn’t a sure thing.

- Speaking of, the Miyazaki and the Credence-type, by virtue of sharing the same saucers, may be part of a design family as well. The Credence was only seen after the Burn (and we only saw interior corridors that were a redress of the Discovery sets). Who knows though if they predate the Burn or were designed during it.

- When on Earth, the Athena saucer and atrium sections still float and are not resting on anything like the "halo" section. This means that people still probably beam off the atrium when they need to get anywhere. Or heck, maybe the turbolift cars beam to the terrestrial parts of the campus.

- Not only the PADDs, but the hyposprays are bigger and bulkier (and more lit) than their earlier equivalents in 1987-2004 Trek - indeed, it's about the same size and shape as a "dolphin" phaser from later TNG. The same device the doctor uses to hypo patients is used by Mir and Lythe to zap the warp slug and its copious goo, indicating a higher range than skin contact.

- When returning to the Athena in "Come, Let's Away", Nus Brakka arrives via the airlock. How did he get there? In a ship? The escape pod he pilfered earlier that season? He subsequently leaves in a donated shuttle from the main shuttlebay (the first time we see it used).

- In 1x08 the cadets are in a simulation on the Athena bridge under the watchful eye of Commander Reno. Is the sim on a holodeck? They haven't so much as mentioned the word all season, and IMO even on a training ship they wouldn't rig the actual ship's bridge to rock and explode for fun. I was sure the Calica field from earlier was on a holodeck too, but for all we know it was a real facility.

- The sakura trees in the atrium stay in bloom for the entire season. In Japan (and really everywhere), the cherry blossoms famously bloom and fall within weeks, prompting a whole country to take several days off. Boothby would be proud - especially since the trees were on fire for hours (?) during the trial in 1x10, and were restored to their pre-burn condition for the song at the end.

- By my count, the Athena has gotten into four scrapes this season: three times versus the Venari Ral, and one "against" a bunch of Klingons. Perhaps coincidentally, these four engagements are all in the episodes where the Athena was offworld. Earth is probably a pretty safe place overall, but they have a pretty bad track record of getting into trouble when they're not there.

Not sure about design lineage, the 32nd century is too vague on details like that.

The USS Miyazaki was a Constitution class of the 32nd Century.

The neck is connected to the base building.

Yeah, the PADD's feel like they're "Kid Proofed" with extra protective housings.
I'm not sure why the HypoSprays are larger than the 24th century equivalents.

He most likely used a Shuttle of some sort since his main ship was near by cloaked.

It seems to be the Real Bridge using the Simulator Mode

They haven't so much as mentioned the word all season, and IMO even on a training ship they wouldn't rig the actual ship's bridge to rock and explode for fun.
Having a bridge training mode on the actual bridge isn't that hard

I'm pretty sure the Calica field is a holodeck program

Space is a very dangerous place, especially in the Post Burn world where StarFleet is at a fraction of it's size as a Governmental Super Power.

At the start of DISCO in the 32nd century, they're at 38 Members by the time the USS Discovery enters SF HQ in 3189 AD.
By the time of SFA, they're at 60 Members as of 3190 AD, their previous peak was 350 members.

Wait, was the Sojourner referenced as a new build? I know we didn't see it, but could it not have also been an older ship in need of a captain?

Mark

The only thing that MA has on the USS Sojourner is this:
The USS Sojourner was a 32nd century Federation starship.

In 3190, Fleet Admiral Charles Vance offered command of the Sojourner to Captain Saru but he declined. (DIS: "Anomaly (DIS)")
No reference to it being a new build or what class it belonged to. Just needed a new Captain.

I've only been skimming this thread since I haven't been able to watch the show yet, but is it possible with the detached sections that they're able to mix-and-match parts? Would certainly make some refits a lot easier. Or get some damaged ships home quicker. ("Here, have one of my nacelles!")

I can see how a damaged Nacelle can be easily "Hot Swapped" in real time.

Some ally brings you a brand new Warp Nacelle, you pair it to your StarShip like we pair BT HeadSets to our SmartPhones.

In the time of a few minutes, you're back up and running at Full FTL speeds.

Your ally can take the busted Warp Nacelle back to the StarBase for repairs & restoration.
