Spoilers Severance on Apple+

I just finished season two. That was hard work.

I could barely keep attention at the end. I don't care about the Mark/Helly relationship which seemed to underpin much of the story, but then also I don't get *they* feel it that much. they kissed once, then fucked once, and now we're meant to be buy into this deep connection.

I keep reminding myself that, other than the brief awakening during the Overtime Protocol, this world is literally all they know. Their entire universe, their entire existence, is the Severed Floor at Lumon. The population of their world is only the population of this floor. They didn't "grow up", go to school, nothing. They came alive on a table in the conference room.

For me, that makes it easier to understand and appreciate the Mark/Helly thing.

Here’s an interesting take on season two by author Jason Pargin, who loves the show and posts about it often. He theorizes that season two was actually supposed to end the show, but that halfway through they got told there would be a third season, which caused them to rewrite the ending. No idea if any of that is true, but I find some of the evidence interesting and it would certainly explain the unevenness of the season, where the second half almost felt like it didn’t fit the first half …
