Spoilers Severance on Apple+

Just finished my rewatch of season one and damn, I'm so glad I rewatched all of it because there is so much I had forgotten about and so much more I think I picked up on that I don't think I noticed the first time (such as how Irving may have also been dead like Gemma and that Irving's outie was already investigating Burt). Plus "Devon!...She's alive!" hits so much harder this time around.

I feel like I'm experiencing the early days of LOST and Fringe, so I hope we get satisfying answers as things progress further (mixed results for both but I was actually more satisfied for the former than the latter).

(I have no idea how I managed to misspell Irving's name twice )

First episode has dropped. Pretty good start. Michick is slimy. Great actor though!

Not at all surprised Helly lied about her being an Eagen so the real question is how long is she going to be able to keep it quiet. Thanks to Melchick (and probably some outside forces), everyone is lying to each other or deliberately withholding information. I just hope that doesn't last all season (or even longer) in a LOST-esque fashion (one of my few serious critiques of that show).

But of all of the new and lingering questions (including what were all of the outies doing for five months...), the one that stands out the most to me is how the hell anyone could sever a child?

Oh, wait. I already know the answer to that. A cult.

That entire break room sequence was something else.
The propaganda machine was certainly firing on all cylinders, but even for Lumon, that video was quite something. The claymation was a nice touch.

I’m going to guess that next week’s episode focuses on the outies and why they return to the severed floor.

Milchick isn’t severed so I’d assume the child supervisor isn’t either. But I don’t know that for certain. Even so, with Lumen’s capacity for lacking morals, I wouldn’t put it past them.

Yeah, so I went to watch the finale of Silo and found this loaded, and I couldn't wait. Silo will be tonight.

I think everything Milchick said was bullshit. The newspaper, that they're "heroes" outside, the reforms, the family visiting center, all of it. That movie was ridiculous. I think we'll get an episode that shows what *really* happened to their outies. If it's truly been 5 months, where the hell were their outies?

Miss Huang...Mark and Gemma's daughter? A child grown down there? We know at least two of them (Mark and Irving) had relationships with other severed employees in the real world.

I think this whole thing is some kind of experiment. Getting a "feeling" to put certain numbers in boxes...???

Anyway, we're off and running.

:techman:

Oh, absolutely. He's total slime.

The "outie" episode is the next one. IIRC, originally Apple was going to drop eps. 1 & 2 as a two-part premiere, so not sure why they changed the schedule.

As a standalone this felt a little barren. We have so little information about what happened it only really works as a table-setting episode to get the MDR crew back together.

She had a weird vibe all episode and I feel like they're setting her up as a possible antagonist. Lots of people think she's actually Helena undercover, so we'll see.

I'm fine with splitting it up. I rather savor the show instead of watching it as fast as possible. I only think two/three episode premieres are good for season one releases to help garner a quick, large audience. Severance has that established, loyal audience so Apple can take the time for a regular release.

I could see that twist happening.

When you say "lots of people," I assume you mean reddit, etc.?

This Lumon ad feels like it came straight from Dharma (LOST):

I definitely thought Helly was the Outie undercover (without reading it online!) She was the one pushing the others to reveal what happened to them when they woke up outside. Plus I thought she gave Miss Wong a knowing look when she saw her...

I hope we see Alia Shawkat and the other weird newbies again.

Mark was really the only one to come clean. Irving kind of skirted the issue, until he told Dylan in the hallway.

It makes sense that Helly wouldn't want to disclose her identity, but it also makes sense that's she's unsevered now. I guess we'll see.

Where was everyone before Mark got them back? Again, I don't believe a word Milchick said.

I watched it again last night paying a lot of attention to Helly. It definitely could go either way at this time. The whole “we’re nothing like our outies” speech could be either a huge clue or a gigantic red herring. We will see.
