And really if what's wrong with her is congenital that allows Anika to prance about in Unimatrix Zero... At least one of her parents should have been in there to nurture her.

And they weren't!!! They abandoned her even in the secret Borg Lala land!!
I bet it's because they didn't need to escape the Collective. It was their goal to know as much about the Borg as possible so why would they want to opt out of the ultimate payoff assimilation gave them.
