McFarlane also announced on the AMA that the show will be moving to Thursday nights after Sunday's episode. I hope the change in time slot does not hurt the show.
I don't think it will be preempted by games on Fox but they show Thursday night games sometimes on NBC or NFL Network so it might have competition. Will it be safe from getting stuffed around by the NFL games on a Thursday night time slot? (I know that was concern some voiced in here about the premier last week).
Fear the Walking Dead is being shown but not the flagship show. EDIT: I think its timeslot keeps it from conflicting anyway. What time was the first episode on? Would it have been in competition with Walking Dead?
I was thinking more of from Frozen when Anna jumps out of bed all excited for coronation day...."It's piss day!"
Thursday isn't too bad. If it gets moved to Friday that's the end of it, guaranteed.McFarlane also announced on the AMA that the show will be moving to Thursday nights after Sunday's episode. I hope the change in time slot does not hurt the show.
That is certainly possible.
I do think, on the whole, that it will be good for BOTH shows. GOTHAM can get very dark. THE ORVILLE is lighter fare. They balance out.
Plus, it will be right after the season premiere of GOTHAM, so there might be new viewers that THE ORVILLE might not have otherwise had.

Just looked it up and you're correct but second place is ... Thursday Night Football on NBC.On Sunday nights, it is going up against NBC's Sunday Night Football. The number one show in America, IIRC.

Good point.
Nice interview with Brannon Braga about the show here.
"There is an episode where The Orville crew finds itself in a situation where they need to destroy an enemy vessel, but they actually take into consideration the thing we never did on Star Trek which was there are families aboard that ship."
Here is Seth McFarlane's answer to why The Orville does not appear to have transporter tech:
I like his answer. Hopefully, this means that we won't see technobabble being used as a cheat to get out of a jams, like we started seeing in latter trek.
Oh, the ratings will go down.
Gotham will be its lead-in.
Thing is, Fox knows the ratings will drop. That's factored in.
The ratings on anything will go down. You will have tons of people tuning in to the first episode out of curiosity. Some will like it and continue to watch and some won't and won't watch anymore
Also probably for the best seeing as how Star Trek had to find ways to break the damned thing to get characters into jams they they couldn't easily get out of.
