It will be a re-imagining, set 10 years before Firefly.
I love Serenity, but to have the gang back together? Yeah, I could forget it happened. And we'd have to pretend Serenity never happened? Or go to between the when the series was cancelled and the film?
Given where Whedon wanted to go with Season 2, I think it could be incredibly interesting. However, I have a feeling (can't recall a quote, so this may or may not be accurate-reckless speculation) that Joss wants to move forward and not look back.Nathan's already on board. He said he would take the role again in a heartbeat. Same goes for Alan Tudyk, Gina Torres, and Jewel Staite. Adam Baldwin would love to get back on board if Joss were to step up and make the offer, as would Sean Maher. The only ones I'm not sure of would be Summer Glau, and Morena Baccarin, though both still express fondness for the show, and have talked about a return. Honestly, it really could go either way.

I think that most of what made Firefly popular was cast, and of course Joss Whedon. When you take those away you end up with pretty basic scifi-show set in space. There was some interesting worldbuilding, but nothing that wouldnt just as easily work in a completely new show without the "burden" of a reboot/reimagining, etc what fans would throw at it.I don't know. Part of the reason Firefly worked is because of the actors themselves. I would give a new show with a new cast/crew a shot, but I'd still be missing the original gang of heathens.
Fox canceled Family Guy 15 years ago and you can see how well that worked.
Has it? Because this reminds me a lot of the chatter from 2004/5, where people were saying that because the Firefly DVD sales were like #1 on Amazon or something, and discussion forums were buzzing with Firefly topics, that Serenity would handily make the $80 million target Universal wanted in order to justify a sequel.I think that a Firefly reboot is certainly plausible; considering that it's surged in popularity since being cancelled
Same here.Has it? Because this reminds me a lot of the chatter from 2004/5, where people were saying that because the Firefly DVD sales were like #1 on Amazon or something, and discussion forums were buzzing with Firefly topics, that Serenity would handily make the $80 million target Universal wanted in order to justify a sequel.
And that didn't happen. Because as "popular" as something seems online, that doesn't really translate to real-world popularity. Firefly was always a niche thing.
I love Firefly. I love the movie, too. But could it really come back? I'm not sure.
