News Seth MacFarlane’s The Orville

And we'd have to pretend Serenity never happened? Or go to between the when the series was cancelled and the film?
I love Serenity, but to have the gang back together? Yeah, I could forget it happened.

Oh, I'm sure they could figure out some way to revive Wash and get the gang back together. I'd love to see a Firefly reunion or revival.

Nathan's already on board. He said he would take the role again in a heartbeat. Same goes for Alan Tudyk, Gina Torres, and Jewel Staite. Adam Baldwin would love to get back on board if Joss were to step up and make the offer, as would Sean Maher. The only ones I'm not sure of would be Summer Glau, and Morena Baccarin, though both still express fondness for the show, and have talked about a return. Honestly, it really could go either way.

Given where Whedon wanted to go with Season 2, I think it could be incredibly interesting. However, I have a feeling (can't recall a quote, so this may or may not be accurate-reckless speculation) that Joss wants to move forward and not look back.

I think there is still plenty to be done in the 'Verse, but I'm not sure how it would go.

I don't know. Part of the reason Firefly worked is because of the actors themselves. I would give a new show with a new cast/crew a shot, but I'd still be missing the original gang of heathens.
I think that most of what made Firefly popular was cast, and of course Joss Whedon. When you take those away you end up with pretty basic scifi-show set in space. There was some interesting worldbuilding, but nothing that wouldnt just as easily work in a completely new show without the "burden" of a reboot/reimagining, etc what fans would throw at it.

I think that a Firefly reboot is certainly plausible; considering that it's surged in popularity since being cancelled
Has it? Because this reminds me a lot of the chatter from 2004/5, where people were saying that because the Firefly DVD sales were like #1 on Amazon or something, and discussion forums were buzzing with Firefly topics, that Serenity would handily make the $80 million target Universal wanted in order to justify a sequel.

And that didn't happen. Because as "popular" as something seems online, that doesn't really translate to real-world popularity. Firefly was always a niche thing.

I love Firefly. I love the movie, too. But could it really come back? I'm not sure.

Same here.

Technically Serenity has come back, like 3 or 4 times at least, just not as a movie or TV series. Dark Horse is on their second post-movie mini-series right now, and before the first one they also did a stand-alone one offs, one of which finally filled in Book's backstory. Seriously, if want more Serenity/Firefly, check out the comics, they're great and I believe they've all had at least some level of involvement from Joss Whedon or one of his brothers.

Yeah, those aliens reminded me more of Krall than Jem-Haddar like some others mentioned.

Any idea when/if The Orville will be rebroadcast on Hulu or Amazon?

I don't know if it's still the same, but before Hulu went paid only, the US version would post network shows the day after they air for free. I stopped using it once it switched over to subscription only, so I don't know if that's still the case.
Amazon usually posts them to buy the day after they air, but the free Prime versions can take months to 1 year+.
