Series 12 News & Spoilers

I'm filling in the gaps by getting back into the Big Finish stuff - picking up the landmark releases and crossovers, plus they're now releasing stuff with David Tenant.

There's some worthwhile stuff, it's just that there's so much and the cost - I'd love to do all the eighth Doctor audios but there's a lot. Pity they don't do a streaming subscription service.

I think I read that they have some content on Spotify (not a user myself). Also, downloads are a lot cheaper than CDs, and they often have really good sales, usually through their website, but they’ve also done some Humble Bundles.

Also, I'd only managed to see the first half of the last two TV seasons, so I'm rationing and enjoying those...

I saved the last two episodes of the Sarah Jane Adventures for a rainy day, and I still have quite a few episodes of the K9 semiofficial spinoff to get through. Not the same as the real thing, but they’re all part of the big picture.

I listen to Big Finish audios through Audible. The monthly subscription on Audible usually works out cheaper than buying the audio directly in Audible. Have started going through the Eight Doctor plays since Christmas.

The Judoon? Well, ain't that a "koh-winka-dink"! Just a week or two ago, someone modeled, rigged and released a digital Judoon mesh (free, of course) for use in Poser (and marginally DAZ Studio). I think he'll get a chuckle that they will return.

It probably hurt Chibnail to put an actual Doctor Who alien on his show, because it might remind people that there was a show called Doctor Who before he pretty much stole the name for his generic Sci-Fi crap, and he has to hate when that happens. But, unless that scene ends with something out of nowhere like the Judoon impaling one of the companions on its tusks, its probably going to just be a wasted cameo.

No one is making you watch Chibnall's Doctor Who. It doesn't make you happy, and you clearly don't enjoy it. This world is full of things that will make you happy. Our lives are short, our time is limited. Why waste your time with something you clearly despise?

We could equally well ask why some people cut themselves.

Or why some don't.
Um, no. That's not even remotely the same thing. While kirk's shtick is beyond obnoxious at this point, it's not remotely the same thing as someone physically hurting themselves and it's an insult to those people to make such a comparison.

I apologize wholeheartedly for comparing Kirk5555's situation to that of actual people.

Well, some people do it as a cry for help. Some do it to reassure themselves with the physical sensation that they're capable of feeling *something* - and something they can control. Some do it because it's a type of wound they can actually see and feel heal up the way mentals scars don't.

Or maybe some of us are constrained by laws preventing the cutting of *other* people.

Yes, no one should ever criticize anything! We should all just completely drop and ignore anything we like the second it goes through a rough patch, just so people who like something can never hear anything bad about it  By that logic, I would have never have watched any TNG (my favorite Trek show) because its first season was so rough, and I wouldn't have watched a single Star Wars movie after Phantom Menace.

I'll keep glancing at Chibnail's completely original Sci Fi show that stole Doctor Who's name, because if I can sit through all of The Clara Show co-starring The Doctor I can handle a boring, bland Sci Fi show that just happens to have stolen the name of a better show. I'll also keep giving my opinion, because this isn't a private forum for people who blindly love Chibnail's crappy original Sci Fi show. Its fine if you like the show, but you're not going to silence its critics (of which I'm not anywhere near the worst because at least I'm not some asshole who hates there being a female Doctor, I just hate the writing of this show, and how it barely resembles the actual show called Doctor Who that used to air before it).

Until the actual Doctor Who airs again, I'll watch Chibnail's shit even if it only pisses me off. But, he rarely even accomplishes that, because his stuff is worse then bad: its painfully, pathetically boring most of the time. I'd rather go back to the Clara Show, at least then I could remember what happened from episode to episode, and I could actually name the companion (If someone put a gun to my head and told me to name all of 13's companions, I'd die because I only remember Yaz, and even then its only because she has a distinct name).

That's disingenuous and clearly not what is being said.

Yeah, but, if it's so terrible, why sit through it at all? If it's truly so bad that you claim "it stole the name" why not just watch something else? Do something else? Why watch something you clearly hate? What's the point in that? Is your life so wrapped up in a show that you can't walk away when it's terrible?

You could always come back. The only person forcing you to watch something you think is terrible is you. That's fucked up.

I can understand sticking with something that's changed in a way you don't like for a while, in the hope that it changes back. But given kirk55555 has indicated that he(?) hasn't really enjoyed the show since Clara's time (around 6 years now) surely the time has come to give up the show. It's not going back to what it was anytime soon. So if you don't enjoy it, take a break and try again with the next regeneration/production team. It'll be good for you mental health.

I watched NCIS for 15 years but as the characters I liked started getting replaced by characters I disliked, I gradually lost interest. I finally gave up after Michael Weatherby left and haven't missed it so far. For me, that was a far better option than spending time watching the show and complaining about it.

Yeah. The way Kirk5s describes his feelings about the show (and not just DW), and the insistence to keep watching with the need to rant to the level of rationalizing it‘s identity as DW away to cope, borders on very irrational compulsive behavior.

Part of me wonders.... if instead of a show, it was a person. Like, if I described my relationship with someone as terrible, and they are that person "in name only," who in their right mind would stick around? And if you did stick around in a terrible relationship, would anyone think that's healthy.

Of course, it's just a TV show.

Which is my point. It's a TV show, you don't have to keep watching something. You could just watch something else that makes you feel good.

There's fan noise (I won't dignify it by calling it a "rumor") that Billie Piper is returning as Rose. I'm sure this is Who fandom adding 2 and 2 and getting 37, but it would be interesting to see the thirteenth Doctor meet a former companion.
If a former companion were returning, I'd much rather see Tegan meeting 13 given Janet's remarks about DW in the past.

That's Saint Rose fangirls wishful thinking, going by the original mention of it - and she was RTD's special Mary Sue, so I don't see that happening... *unless* they're going to do a Nu-Who 15th anniversary episode, in which case she probably wouldn't be the only one returning.

I sure hope not. Give me Tegan or Leela or even a recast Romana (but Lalla Ward would be marvelous, too)! I actually don't want Donna to return because I don't want them to reverse the tragedy of her ending.
