Point being that there's no indication that he gets his old coat back, and is in his local costume when they get back to the ship (mind you, he loses his ring in Reign of Terror, which should be a bigger deal. Though Lemaitre was an a position to give it back, so that's OK).
Indeed, in Space Museum he's seems to expect that the TARDIS would have had another coat waiting for him when he dismisses Vicki's confusion about them having changed during the timeslip.
I guess that settles the issue somewhat, Nardole is getting a new body.

Interestingly, that's another variation on Capaldi's new outfit; with a t-shirt instead of a shirt. Combined with them shooting some scenes with snow and some without at the same locations I wonder if the episode takes place over a wide span of time.
Character Options doesn't make anywhere near as many Doctor Who action figures like they used to. I think they've cut their output to by at least half, if not by two-thirds in the last couple of years.
Regardless of their actual output, the fact they have so many options for potential Doctor action figures is definitely not something they're complaining about. I remember the explanation once given by Hasbro regarding why they still do so many Star Wars action figures based on Luke Skywalker or Darth Vader despite the fact every possible variation of the characters have been done in action figure form, particularly Vader who is rather limited as far as variations go. Their answer was they are always mindful of new collectors, or new kids getting their first Star Wars action figures and always want figures of the franchise's leads readily available for them.
So, using that logic, I imagine Character Options must always want the incumbent Doctor available, and having many possible variations to make definitely works to their advantage.
The only ones complaining are customers who would like to see Character Options do new figures--which they aren't doing that much anymore. They're mostly repackaging existing figures or, in some cases, re-releasing past figures with a new paint job rather than do an all-new sculpt.
I've just realized that the coat's inner lining is now this turquoise thing instead of red. Is it the same sort of crombie coat or a different design?
All told, I like to think that the change of dress is indicative of time passing. Capaldi never really returned to his first year's coat + top swag combo once he switched to the red one, and now this one may switch things up again. This Doctor may not have a very well-defined look, but the coat is still king.

I never subscribed to any of the three theories you presented, so I'm not sure of your point.
Strax: Downloaded into new clone body.
Osgood: Zygon or the Zygon was killed - that WAS obvious, right from the start.
Coulson: Fury faked his death to motivate Stark.
Maybe you didn't, but trust me, they were popular theories.

The discussion thread from back when plans for Agents of SHIELD were first announced had everyone stating it would either be set before The Avengers or be a completely different continuity with a whole lot of WTFs after it was revealed to be the same continuity and after The Avengers.
And I even brought up this same point back when we were speculating if Osgood was coming back or if her season 9 appearance was prior to Death in Heaven.
