Sense8 Christmas Special and Season 2 Release Date Announced

I understand why people don't like the slow pace of the first season, but I loved that slow pace. It makes sense for these eight strangers to take awhile to acclimate with suddenly being tossed into this cluster where they share the same mental and, to a degree, physical space. I didn't need the mysteries resolved right away (and some of them still haven't been resolved, like Sara Patrell) and I preferred to see them slowly figure what being a sensate means.

I had to go back and watch the last 2 episodes of Season 1 to refresh my memory, watched the 'special' and then plowed forward. I just finished Season 2. Over all, I thought the cinematography, pacing and the editing was absolutely outstanding. There was never a moment in any episode that I didn't feel like I was watching a big budget movie. I found the 'Whispers' storyline to be the weakest of the bunch, to be honest. Never really understood his motives other than being a twisted conspiracy baddie. Too one dimensional for my tastes. Liked what was happening with Sun and Wolfgang storylines though.

Any word on a pick up for season 3?
Q2

I liked season 2 better than season 1, because it finally had the kind of full-cluster interaction and cooperation I wanted to see all along, but that the first season mostly saved until the end. Plus lots of fun interactions between different pairings and occasionally groups of three or so. Also a lot of humor, a lot of uplifting moments, and some fun guest stars. I liked Detective Mun -- he's quite charming and well-acted.

I kinda wish they hadn't attempted to talk about the "science" of all this, since it was pretty much gibberish. Even the name Homo sensorium is bogus. Taxonomic names are usually formed to work as Latin phrases -- for instance, Homo sapiens means "wise man," while H. neanderthalensis means "man of the Neander Valley." So the species name would have to be a genitive noun or an adjective. Or else a noun in apposition, like Panthera leo, but then it'd have to be something that's a parallel term for the same thing, like "my brother George" or "the city of Townsville." "The man sensorium" doesn't work as a phrase. Maybe they meant it to be Homo sensorum, which is the neuter genitive plural of sensus (sense), but they mixed it up with the English word "sensorium," meaning the sum total of an organism's perception. But then it would probably be Homo sensi, since there's no reason for it to be plural. If they did mean it to be based on "sensorium," which seems more likely, then the correct genitive form would be Homo sensorii. And it would have to be a subspecies than an actual separate species, given that sensates are evidently interfertile with normal humans, so it would be H. sapiens sensorii.

Marvelous to see Sylvester McCoy. Between him and Freema Agyeman, we got a Doctor and a companion in the same episode! I wondered if his line about "slowly dying of survival" was an in-joke, since the final serial of the classic Doctor Who was called "Survival." If not, at least it's an amusing coincidence.

I agree with the above comments that the finale was way too rushed. Given that Netflix allows episode lengths to vary, I think they should've extended the final sequence by five or ten minutes to give us more detail. I mean, the whole cluster physically gathering for real is a big deal, a neat twist and a momentous event. It deserved a lot more focus than this hasty "gotcha" reveal.

Also, I'm puzzled by something, because they put a gun on the wall in the first episode and never fired it. When Lito and Capheus gave the identical speech to two different cameras in two different countries at the same time, I thought that was bound to tip someone off that they were in a sensate cluster, or else it would get reported publicly and create a scandal that maybe one or both had faked the speech. And there were multiple references in later episodes to both videos getting millions of hits, so I thought for sure they were laying the groundwork for just such a twist. But they never did anything with it at all.

Good points about the taonomny. My Latin is a bit rusty so the conjugation didn't stand out to me.

I wondered the same about the survival line. It certainly stood out like a sore thumb to me, but then that serial has always had a special place in my heart.

Hm, I hadn't considered that repercussion in either form, but now that you point it out, it is surprising that no one at BPO made that connection, especially considering they're trying to track down as many sensates as possible. Maybe it'll be something that will come up next season as something Leila or someone from her cluster has been quietly tracking, but I think that waiting so long, especially since it happened in the first episode, might be too hard to believe as a follow-up.

Of course, it's probable that Lito was giving the speech in Spanish while Capheus was saying it in Swahili, so that might keep people from noticing that they used the same words. But there must be someone out there who knows both languages.

I forget -- when someone asked Nomi how many languages she spoke, did she say 7 or 8? Between them, I think the cluster speaks English, Icelandic, German, Swahili, Korean, Hindi, and Spanish, but maybe one of them speaks an additional language. Given Capheus's mixed-tribe background, maybe he speaks two languages or dialects.

I loved season 2. It was a clear improvement over the good, but flawed, first season. The cast interaction was handled better, and I loved watching them solve various problems together. Every character had an interesting story. I wasn't sold on the new Capheus after the Christmas special, but the new actor won me over during this season. My favorites are Will, Riley, Lito and Wolfgang, but I love them all and hope we get a new season.

I like that you're asking for information that you could easily look up in order to keep the conversation going. Keep it up, you'll get the hang of two-way conversations eventually.

Variety reports that Netflix has cancelled Sense8. :(

“After 23 episodes, 16 cities and 13 countries, the story of the Sense8 cluster is coming to an end,”,” said Cindy Holland, VP of Netflix original content. “It is everything we and the fans dreamed it would be: bold, emotional, stunning, kick ass, and outright unforgettable. Never has there been a more truly global show with an equally diverse and international cast and crew, which is only mirrored by the connected community of deeply passionate fans all around the world. We thank Lana, Lilly, Joe and Grant for their vision, and the entire cast and crew for their craftsmanship and commitment.”
I worried this might happen considering how expensive it is and how little chatter I've heard about the second season. Such a shame considering how rushed and rough the final episode felt.

As a fan of both J. Michael Stracynski and the Wachowski brothers, I wanted to watch the show. However, I've heard from multiple sources that there are scenes throughout the show that would make me violently expel my stomach contents. Shame.

A shame about the cancellation, especially with that cliffhanger ending. I wish they'd at least commission another Christmas special to wrap up the series.

It's actually Wachowskis, they're sisters.

It's a shame they're cancelling it. That show really meant a lot to me. :(

It's too bad... Netflix didn't even pull a Fox on that show. And I had no idea both former brothers transitioned, knowing only about Lana.

And I suppose they've always been sisters.

In any case I will miss Sense8. What a great show. It didn't always make sense but it was spectacular and heartwarming. Great acting, too.

Also the best use of a 1990s song in a TV show ever (4 Non Blondes, What's up?).

Great, great song. And I didn't mean to say they weren't sisters... :)
