Sense8 Christmas Special and Season 2 Release Date Announced

That's what you did. I was talking very specifically about death and the celebration thereof, and you somehow drifted into a conversation about breaking any kind of law whatsoever. That's a totally different subject from what I'm talking about.
Yes, drifted. That's what conversations do most of the time. And now you've apparently ended this one.

Just watched the Christmas orgy special, really liked it. That may have been my favorite episode of the series, but the rest of them were so damn long ago I really don't remember.

I'm glad this special was 2 hours long, because it took a good 30-40 minutes or more for me to finally catch on with who everyone was again and where they were at in their storylines. What was the point of this special? Was that the point? To provide a recap and remind everyone where things are heading into season 2?

Some of the group celebration scenes in the middle part were really well done.

If the rest of season 2 is anything like this special, then it'll be great.

Pretty much. JMS said:
That's because this was really meant as a catch-up on the story and a celebration of the season; S2 has massive story movement.

More than that, though, I think it was a good idea for them to show us an interlude where the cluster explores their new connectedness and learns to use that connection consciously. In the first season the only times they came together were in extreme situations emotionally. Now we've seen them learning more control.

I really liked the Christmas special and I'm looking forward to seeing season 2. I'm eager to see which direction the show goes in.

Hello everyone! Finally watched the Special after finishing S1 a few weeks ago, and am ready to par-tay, Sense8 style! (But not by orgying-with you all. Picnic in SF and dance parties in India, more like.) ;)

Some observations:

- Several of Bug's place's scenes was filmed inside a family friend of mine's houseboat in Sausalito, rather clumsily doubling for a small stretch of ones in the South of Market area, given the clear expanse of Richardson Bay outside the windows, which I either didn't know or had forgotten about. I've known that guy all my life, and there his place was, plain as day, even with the set dressing. Wild!

- Speaking of which, the roof from which Nomi was eavesdropping from in the Special was not the Women's Center, or indeed any Mission District building, but the historic Westerfield House in Alamo Square. Not cool, show, not cool. :p

- Did anyone else get a serious Hugo Weaving vibe from the way Agent Bendix said "Aman-ita Cap-lan"? He dropped the over-enunciating style right after, but I thought that must have been a "Mis-ter And-er-son" callback.

- I do hope that S2 proper reprises the rollercoaster pace of the end of S1 more than the languorous pace of the first half, and now this two-hour special. I respect the creators' obvious reluctance to do a cliche'd "Evil Scientists vs. Everyday Normals" sci-fi potboiler, and dive deep into the characters' psyches, but it feels like we know about all there is to know of them by now, so it's time to lather on the thrills. :bolian:

JMS has said that that will be the case. But - I don't think we know all there is to know about either the sensates or their abilities. I'm looking forward to finding out more about Whispers being able to use lobotamized patients to move around in and I've got a theory about Riley I'm hoping to see come true. Looking forward to May!

I'm four episodes in and I'm loving how they're working to move from defense to offense. And I just wanted to burst out in joy about...

Sylvester McCoy!!! I had no idea he was going to guest star! I can't wait to see more of him. :D

I watched the whole season over the weekend and loved it with one minor complaint about the final episode. Definitely need to watch it again as so much information about
Homo Sensorium
was packed in to the first episode or two.

And yes, I enjoyed that character a lot. Enjoyed most of the new folks, actually.

Yeah, I watched the whole thing over the weekend, too, but I wanted to wait for others to comment (didn't want to double post).

I wonder if your complaint about the final episode is the same one I have...

Most of the season is great with a solid pace. However, the latter half of the final episode is rather problematic.

I fully expected Wolfgang's kidnapping to be the cliffhanger until I noticed there was still about 20 or so minutes left. And while he wasn't rescued by the end, there are a lot of moving pieces that occur that don't quite make any sense, largely because the episode skips over a number of steps. While I've enjoyed the casual narrative corner cutting the show has done in the past, I felt like this episode went too far when it shifted the entire cluster into London without showing how they learned to got there.

How did Will know exactly where Milton was hiding? How did he successfully penetrate that BPO base of operations without being seen? How did Riley,, Kila, and Lito do the same? I understand the episode wanted to shock the audience that Will was actually in the safe room and that three others were disguised as the masked guards, but I think it was a mistake not showing how they managed to get into those positions. One of the thrilling things about the season 1 finale was seeing how WIll utilized each person's skills in order to penetrate the Iceland base against all odds, and while the supposition is that they did the same thing again, I think the episode loses believability by not show it again, even in a truncated fashion.

There's also the question of Sun's passport. I initially thought she was using a fake passport and I wondered how she was able to acquire it in such short order without any resources. Then it's shown that it's her actual passport (her name is briefly shown), but then question shifts to how did she get hold of it? As for getting clearance, I guess the supposition is Nomi hacked the Seoul airport security system. While it's not necessary for us to see this, I do find it hard to believe security agent didn't recognize her from the news because she's a high-profile target considering her supposed and actual actions. Surely Seoul would have a BOLO out on her, especially at the airport? The season already pushed the limits of suspension of disbelief with Sun casually walking around after prison breakout and fleeing the apartment complex, so it's harder to believe the airport security wouldn't recognize her, let alone actively looking out for her.

To a lesser extent, I found myself questioning Capheus' ease of travel, too. He has spent his entire life in the shanty town of Nairobi so I highly doubt he has a passport. How was he able to get one so quickly? Did he get a favor from Silas? How did Capheus explain his urgent need for it? How did he explain to his mother his apparent seizures and then suddenly say "I have to fly to London!" Likewise, how does Lito explain the same things to Hernardo and Daniela?

Again, the latter half of the episode felt very rushed when I feel there should have been one more episode to allow the narrative to breathe more and handle these particular issues.

Don't get me wrong, I otherwise loved this season and the final episode, but I do think the ending was rushed.

Yes, those are pretty much my issues. Except that I think
Will knew where to look for Whispers based on the stuff that Wolfgang got from the safe after Whispers and his family left on the helicopter. Now, how that access badge that was found actually got to Will, that's a different story.

Indeed, perhaps my biggest issue was how Capheus even got the money to fly to London. And the rest of them, as well, but particularly him.
Wish at least a couple of others might chime in and make it worthwhile making a spoiler thread. I confess I don't really know the spoiler rules here anymore.

Yeah, I'm disappointed by the lack of conversation here. I think considering the lack of activity in this thread may make it okay to go ahead and talk about it in the open. In a week's time, I would say it's definitely okay no matter what. But that's just me.

I also thought of Capheus not having the money to fly to London, but I just figured if he's getting a passport from Silas, he'll get money for the flight, too.

That's a good point about the badges and classified material from the safe, except wouldn't Whispers make sure all of his passes were cancelled because he knew the safe was broken into (or at least expect it to be broken into)?

How does the second season compare with the 1st in terms of pacing?.... I wanted to like this conceptually, but found myself bored at the execution, so I didn't get through more than the first.

Much, much faster - but still keeping to only the perspectives of the cluster. Did you watch the holiday special? It covered several months where the cluster became more integrated and the rest of season two went very quickly. In a few cases, possibly too quickly but I may have missed things in watching the season over a single weekend.
