Section 31 was Michelle Yeoh's idea

The writing and dialog as a whole in Disovery is still and unnatural. Everyone speaks in statements, Burnham especially.

Well it is Star Trek.

But I agree about Tyler. His big reveal ruined him as a character and he is a terribly weak ever since no matter what direction they move him in. I don't know why a new showrunner wouldn't immediately bury him and Lrell who was the weak point of the 3 main Klingons and has been completely castrated after the first few episodes

His big reveal that went precisely... nowhere. Thrown out of the airlock, all so that we would empathise with teary Burnham.

Before Discovery, I knew her from Tomorrow Never Dies. She was pretty good in that. She was also in Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, which I want to see, and she won an award for last year's Crazy Rich Asians.

If you want her full Hong Kong - cinema glory, check out The Heroic Trio. I think Anazon Prime has it.

Since the Tyler character is now completely separated from Burnham by several hundred years, maybe we can actually explore him better and he could get good characterization. He's a dichotomous figure, a natural for character growth to the nteenth degree. He can't return to Earth and the original Tyler's home (since that Tyler is dead, and that would be weird). He can't return to Qo'noS and whatever home Voq had (although he was an orphan or whatever, but still), because that would undermine Chancellor L'rell and her public statements about Voq's decapitation. He's a character who only exists within the framework of an officially non-existent agency.

The difference is Picard and Worf are actually likeable. Burnham, Culber and Tyler? Not so much.
Subjective. Picard has his good qualities but I never found him particularly likeable. He has a tendancy to run his ships through favoritism rather than merit. He's lost more than one ship on his watch. Crew can get nervous serving under a Jonah. Worf has unrealistic ideas about his own species and his one of the worst parent's in star trek. He's also usually wrong, judging from how often the likeable Picard shoots down every idea or suggestion he ventures.

Tyler isn't so much to be liked as to be pondered. He's literally (and I use that word on purpose) not a complete person, and we'll probably never get to know the real Tyler. Burnham and Culber I both find very likeable.

Can you believe this Kurtzman guy. Does he have no honor. Here he is about to create a show that betrays Gene's vision and declare war on canon and then dishonorable is trying to lay all the blame on innocent ,and unexpecting Michelle Yeoh saying it was her idea! I think I speak for everyone in hoping Midnight Edge exposes this injustice to the world!:)

you like to yell "theater" in crowded fires, don't you?

Section 31 was Michelle Yeoh's idea.

Captain Worf series was Michael Dorn's idea.

Sulu Excelsior series was George Takei's idea.

I'm sensing a pattern.
The only difference is Michelle Yeoh is still actively involved with Star Trek and the person in charge, Alex Kurtzman, has the series in development. That's already further along than Captain Sulu and Captain Worf ever got.

Star Trek was in Limbo on TV when Michael Dorn came up with his Captain Worf series. And when George Takei wanted to do a Captain Sulu series, Rick Berman had plans for other series.

Doesn’t make it a good idea, regardless of who it came from. But what the hell, why not?
