Writers' Strike? They can always shoot old scripts or rough drafts. At least that's what the Big Wigs think.

Writer's Strike paired with an Actors' Strike? That's when the Big Wigs get scared. Now they're really feeling the pressure. They'll work something out. They won't like it, but they'll work something out. Don't know about by October. But the Big Wigs will cave.

My prediction is six months and then the Studio Suits become desperate AF.

I really wish the DGA hadn't settled. A triple strike would have really gotten the studios panicking.

Do they even have a script to shoot? Only possibly I can think of maybe is that this "movie" will be originally what was going to be the (two-part?) pilot of the series and they're merely re-purposing that, like how TMP came out of the aborted Phase II series. Considering Section 31 has been going on and off for a few years they must have something they can put on film.

If Section 31 ends up being a success sequels won't be far behind, they may even be scripts ready from the never-made series.

I would think so. I guess they started talking about it in 2017, and it was announced in 2019.

Back in April and this current iteration...

So everything seems to be ready to go.

Although of course production may or may not start later this year.

I hope it is a success. And I hope for a sequel in the form of a few streaming movies, or as an ongoing series, either is fine with me.

It'll be a different kind of Star Trek show.

Because there will be a shortage of movies due to the WAG and SAG strikes, could they release Section 31 in the cinema instead of as a streaming movie? Or does it look *too* cheap? Maybe filmed in 3.2k instead of 4k, with low res special effects etc. for example?

If they promote it as a Michelle Yeoh movie instead of a Star Trek movie, they could probably get away putting it in the theater, if the budget is low enough, and they're hurting for material badly enough.

Just call it Section 31 instead of Star Trek: Section 31. As soon as you put "Star Trek" in front of the title, you'd lose a lot of people who would've gone to see it otherwise. Also make Michelle Yeoh as prominent on the movie poster as possible, to create an even further distance, so Average Joe isn't even thinking about Star Trek at all. They'd just want to go see this new movie Michelle Yeoh is in.

They need to film it first, which they can't do because of the strikes. So moot question all around.

Yeah, the whole premise presupposes they can get it in the can quickly after the strike ends and into theatres before the rest of the studios gear back up.

Given the pace of this project so far, that seems quite unlikely. Paramount like to strike when the iron had gone cold.

    We tried it with Enterprise.

It did not end well. > . <

People are liable to think, "It must be bad. They're refusing to give it the Star Trek brand name."

Change “Trek” to “Wars”. That might work

Scott Bakula wasn't the type of draw that Michelle Yeoh is. Although...

    ... yeah. I can't argue with that.

Any news on Section 31? Should this not have started filming by now? Perhaps it already has and we just do not know about it yet?

This is the most recent news that I can find:

    https://trekmovie.com/2023/11/16/star-trek-section-31-movie-reportedly-prepping-for-production/

I hear rumours that there may be delays in finding a distributor such as Netflix or Prime, could this be what is holding back production?

Speaking of rumours, Section 31, codenamed ‘Dovercourt’ here, is still listed on an *actual* rumours list on the most recent Directors Guild of Ontario list of up and coming productions…

From the initial announcement it was going to be a Paramount+ movie, so I doubt those rumours.

The entire industry is still in the process of restarting after the strikes. I don't expect Section 31 to begin filming until after New Year's.

Yeah, I'm just echoing the chamber here, but it would have been shocking to learn the flick's already behind cameras.

I mean SNW was on the verge of beginning filming when the writer's strike began, and that still won't begin filming until the start of December. Section 31 was meant to begin filming in October without the strikes, there's no reason to expect it to be filming right now.
