News Section 31 is the next series, not set in "our world"

“We had an overview meeting last Summer and we have those every year now where they give us a pitch for the season. We knew about the mirror universe because last year. We knew we were going to jump into the future because of Michelle Yeoh, and how she was getting out of our world and into the ‘Section 31’ world which is the next series, so it was an early conversation,” Phillips tells Variety.

I'm not sure how we get from the Mirror Universe to Section 31, but I'll wait to see the second part. Right now it's a mystery.

As an unapologetic fan of the 23rd century (as presented by Discovery), I hope it's set in the prime universe and in that era. And I want semi-frequent crossovers with SNW and some younger TOS characters as Section 31 deals with the dark underbelly in the Wild West/cowboy diplomacy era of the Federation.

It's also the best way to ensure Shazad Latif has employment again as one of my favorite character studies in Trek.

Agreed. I saw some speculation about this on other boards and I think it would be an excellent way to turn the whole Section 31 premise on its head. It might even appease those purists who seem to have a fundamental problem with the concept of the Federation having a Section 31 arm at all.

If the 31 show is about
a new Mirror 31 that Georgiou creates as the secret good guys after getting a taste of the Federation
, I'm much more curious, and I'll watch it
Great idea! It will allow the current team to do what they always wanted -- create a self indulgent dystopia and claim it's Star Trek.

That would actually be an interesting twist on things....if properly written ;)

Discovery's "world" is now the 32nd century. All that means in the "Section 31" series doesn't tale place in the 32nd century. It also means the "Section 31" series (like every other current CBSAA Trek series); will have it' own production staff (Yes, people from other shows may collaborate with and help out from time to time; and there's some personnel common to every show's staff); but overall the "Section 31" series will build it's own world; and no, I don't think that will be in the MU; or some alternate Trek timeline/universe.

Time will tell of course.

Yep, agree with pretty much everyone else; Phillips is the costume designer, not one of the writers so I wouldn't over-think her terminology here.

Even a writer wouldn't necessarily mean it in the sense of a universe. Often writer-producers talk about these things more in terms of their narrative relationships, whether the stories are closely related or separate.

I think it's possible they are going to create a alternate timeline like the Kelvinverse that is not connected to the Prime, Kelvin or mirror universe.

Pretty sure they’re talking about production worlds and not worlds within star trek canon, but time will tell I guess. I do like the mirror universe section 31 idea floated above though
