Here's a question. Would anyone take issue if we saw some Lost Era Monster Maroons, but they were based off Admiral Pike's uniform from SNW?

Not at all. I just wish they’d fix the flap alignment to match the upper shoulder line instead of the lower shoulder pad line. That’s all it needs to look right. Other than that, looks great.

The concept version looked so much better. I still don't understand what the costumers were thinking with that weird extension to the strap that takes it nearly to the center of the chest. To me, it felt like making a change just to make a change and it doesn't look good.

It was for a costuming choice that wasn’t really all that visible in Pike’s darkly-lit quarters. In normal lighting, you can see that it followed the hidden line of the lower shoulder seam, as opposed to the upper shoulder line. I get what they were trying to do, but it didn’t work too well in the final cut.

Ok, so they seem to be getting the computers right. They also seemed to be getting the hand phasers right. Putting aside our opinions on plot and characters, there at least seems to be someone behind the scenes who knows what they're doing in terms of production design appropriate to the era.

The new shows have always had great designs.

I think so too. I think it's meant to deliberately be a little wrong because the future is not right.

I wonder how much background they'll put in for new people who haven't seen Disco. We know we'll see her as a kid, so they probably have to put some amount of the wild stuff into it that led her from being Emperor to losing her throne, being taken to the prime universe by the prime version of her adopted daughter who took her because she lost her prime version who she thought of as a mentor and close friend after betraying her, then being recruited by 31, going to the far future only to get destabilized there, forcing her return to the past, but still further ahead than where she's from, using the gateway guy Carl after he put her in her original universe and time for a while to test her.
Sure, not all the details are needed, but how much do you have to explain to not leave first time watchers completely confused?

In a few years it would be interesting to potentially find out more about the other earlier versions of this show/movie. Theres been multiple scripts and rewrites apparently. Ala Star Trek Phase 2 wonder if we will see scripts eventually leak out. IIRC, phase 2 almost had
a similarish production journey as section 31 as originally being a tv show and then switching to a made for tv movie/miniseries . Before (eventually) deciding on a full feature (TMP). For totally different reasons than Section 31 ofcouse

That reminds me, there were some Disco mirror comics, but I didn't get to those yet. Can someone summarize what they were about and what we might see again in the movie? They sometimes reference things from tie-in literature.

Since those comics were set after Georgiou's departure from the MU (the plot is about the power struggle in the wake of her disappearance and Lorca's death) there's nothing for this movie to reference. Plus the Terra Firma storyline in Disco S3 already blatantly contradicted the comics in the most unsalvageable manner anyway.

It seems "Discovery" was erased from canon according to the internet which means the Section 31 movie is now in a alternate universe so they do have freedom to change the uniform if they wanted and it would not be a canon issue.
