Second Iron Man 2 trailer to debut on Jimmy Kimmel after the Oscars

Re: Second Iron Man 2 trailer to debut on Jimmy Kimmel after the Oscar

Well its collapsable, it sort of folds out. I'll admit, its a bit higher tech than we've seen. BUT in the classic comics, his armor basically did a similar trick. His suitcase had the helmet, gauntlets and boots and all he had to do was hit a button and the gold parts sort of snapped into place and locked into the shoulders for the arms and the gold pants did the same from the boots. So this a far cooler and slightly more realistic take on the classic "armor up". Do a search on YouTube for the old Iron Man cartoon from the 60s, I think they briefly show that detail in one episode.

Re: Second Iron Man 2 trailer to debut on Jimmy Kimmel after the Oscar

Now if a future suit(Mark 7 or 8)was like the extremis one where his skin was the circuitry and he just willed the armored parts to attach....

Then we'd have a :wtf:

Re: Second Iron Man 2 trailer to debut on Jimmy Kimmel after the Oscar

Very interesting, but not digging the Suitcase Armor. Rather ridiculous that it seems to grow out of nothing and be able to cover his whole body.

IMHO, expanding suitcase armor is no more ridiculous than many other conceits in the Marvel U. It's a comic book movie that isn't trying to take itself too seriously.

As far as the trailer itself... I was initially underwhelmed when I saw it during JKL after the Oscars, but I just watched it again and I will say my opinion has risen. Maybe my expectations were too high. I do think it's surprising they're adapting "Armor Wars" before touching on the Mandarin or Demon in a Bottle... but I can see how they'd think Mandarin is too "silly" and the drinking thing is a little too dark for the tone they're shooting for.

And Scarlett?
I still think Emily Blunt would have been a better Black Widow, both in looks and as an actress, but Scarlett is so pretty I basically don't care.

Re: Second Iron Man 2 trailer to debut on Jimmy Kimmel after the Oscar

Well and Scarlett has been in other "comic book movies" before, so you know at least she's not going to go "oh forget about my role in Iron Man and the Spirit... I really want you to focus on my NEW film where I'm trying to date some guy..."

I think Armor Wars was a logical next step after the first movie. I mean, the first one was about him stopping the Ten Rings flow of "his" weapons and tech. Now that he's not making weapons other than Iron Men... makes sense that the suits would be the next piece of "his" tech to get back under control. Mandarin could be in the next one as the big baddie who finally reveals his hand. As the guy who was sort of prodding along ObiStane, Hammer and the Ten Rings.

Re: Second Iron Man 2 trailer to debut on Jimmy Kimmel after the Oscar

I forgot to mention that Gwyneth Paltrow is still Teh Hotness as Pepper Potts. Damn, she makes me think impure thoughts.

Re: Second Iron Man 2 trailer to debut on Jimmy Kimmel after the Oscar

Well since AC/DC is doing the soundtrack... I think any time Gwen Paltrow, Scarlett, or Olivia Munn come on screen "Let Me Put My Love Into You" plays in the background...

Re: Second Iron Man 2 trailer to debut on Jimmy Kimmel after the Oscar

I still say they missed a great opportunity by not casting five-time Academy Award-winner Kirk Lazarus as Rhodey.
I'm just glad they have a new Rhodey. The last one was too nasally and whiny to take as a badass.

I have to say, that security guard who gets his ass handed to him by the Black Widow has got to be one of the luckiest guys ever. To have Scarlet slithering all around his body like that, complete with her legs split right at his head? Oh my stars and garters.

Re: Second Iron Man 2 trailer to debut on Jimmy Kimmel after the Oscar

God Bless America eh?

Honestly I think Howard was totally miscast as Rhodey, and while Cheadle isn't quite what I had pictured. I remember Wizard years and years ago had picked Ving Rhames to be Rhodey and yeah at the time he was probably the best choice (course at the time they had picked Tim Dalton to be Tony Stark) But at least Cheadle feels a bit more like he's capable of not just talking his way out of a situation. He can bring the whoopass.

After seeing him in a couple of recent films, I think we'll get the Rhodey that feels more like the Rhodey we know from the comics. Probably better actually since the 80s weren't super-kind to Jim. Sure he was actually Iron Man for a while, but he still was basically Stark's other body guard, pilot, driver and then gave him Stark International when he "Died". At least in this "timeline" he's always been a military man. In the comics, he was a Marine chopper pilot who helped Tony/Iron Man in 'Nam. Then became a soldier of fortune. Then worked for Stark. He was a lot more badass, but I think this doesn't make for as interesting a character. Plus the Air Force has always been a bit higher on the tech curve than the Marines and it makes a lot more sense for Rhodes to have been an MIT grad too, so he's smarter already than Comics Rhodey, he's an Air Force Captain - which is better than the comic's enlisted "Grunt" Rhodey, and... he's being played by an Academy Award winner ;)

So... movie-Rhodey-Cheadle wins!

Re: Second Iron Man 2 trailer to debut on Jimmy Kimmel after the Oscar

Don Cheadle is just a much better actor than Terrence Howard. I think he'll be a much more credible Rhodey/War Machine.

Re: Second Iron Man 2 trailer to debut on Jimmy Kimmel after the Oscar

Does anyone remember the name of that Ambassador or Senator that a very drunk/Hammer controlled Iron Man killed? Was it Stern?

Re: Second Iron Man 2 trailer to debut on Jimmy Kimmel after the Oscar

Found it... was an Ambassador... but not a Senator. Gee... Garry Shandling with a repulsor blast hole in his chest would be fun to see

I agree that Rhodey as recast in the movies is a better character than comic-book-chopper-pilot Rhodey. It made total sense that Stark Industries, as a weapons manufacturer, needed a liaison with the Pentagon. Oh, BTW, his rank in the movies is Lieutenant Colonnel, which is a higher officer rank, not Captain. (He has the tell-tale silver leaf insignia on his uniform, not the two silver bars an Air Force captain would have.)

Re: Second Iron Man 2 trailer to debut on Jimmy Kimmel after the Oscar

Doh that's right... why did I think he was a Captain? :Smacks head: "Ohhh a Colonel Rhodes roll!" Nevermind... but okay then he's even COOLER yet!

Although what is kind of interesting is that this is the first Iron Man adaptation in a long while that has actually sort of got weapons manufacture right. I mean the closest Stark ever had to a military liaison was Jasper Sitwell and he was SHIELD. Plus, I wonder if they'll actually play up the fact that in the last movie Rhodey was wearing a "brass rat" which means he's got the same schooling as Tony - maybe not the inventive genius but he's no foo'! Kind of feels like they mashed up the Ultimate Universe's Rhodey with the 616 a bit.

Re: Second Iron Man 2 trailer to debut on Jimmy Kimmel after the Oscar

^Y'know, they've tended to mash up the original 616 Marvel version with the Ultimates Marvel version of many of the characters, like Fantastic Four. Although I generally intensely dislike many of the Ultimates versions (why did they even do that? Boost book sales, I guess), some of the ideas are good. I mean, Sam Jackson as Nick Fury? Certainly better than David Hasselhoff!

I was wondering how they're going to explain Tony's masterpiece of minituarizing the arc reactor being copied so easily by Whiplash, who, as Ivan Vanko, I guess is some kind of twisted scientist. Corporate espionage? Reverse engineering? Guess we'll find out.

BTW, you might have thought Rhodes was a captain because he originally was a USMC lieutenant, not an enlisted chopper pilot, as I remembered, and both lt. and capt. are junior officer ranks, not a senior officer like a lt. col.

Re: Second Iron Man 2 trailer to debut on Jimmy Kimmel after the Oscar

Perhaps the original Arc Reactor was Vanko's idea, or based on his theories, to which Stark (or more likely his father) "stole" from him. Hence the intense resentment and hatred.

Re: Second Iron Man 2 trailer to debut on Jimmy Kimmel after the Oscar

I think the theory right now is Vanko worked on the big reactor from part 1.

Re: Second Iron Man 2 trailer to debut on Jimmy Kimmel after the Oscar

I think the theory right now is Vanko worked on the big reactor from part 1.

Vanko blames Tony Stark's father for stealing the idea of the arc reactor from his own father. In the film, Tony says that his arc reactor cannot be replicated, but Vanko in fact does replicate it and on the track in Monaco reveals his arc reactor technology and attacks Stark.

I can't wait either that Briefcase Armor is the da bomb.

Re: Second Iron Man 2 trailer to debut on Jimmy Kimmel after the Oscar

Ultimate was launched to bring in new readers since the 616 verse was daunting to noobs with it's 40-odd years of continuity (as of 2001). it was a way to try to get more people into comics by saying 'don't worry, it's all new, you don't need to know what happened in a story from 1972 any more!' and also so it could be set in a more contemporary setting with fewer issues of when it took place.

unfortunately, that last part got fucked pretty quick with the delays around The Ultimates and then Bendis retconning his timeline every couple of stories.

Re: Second Iron Man 2 trailer to debut on Jimmy Kimmel after the Oscar

Looks like it's going to be a fun movie. What ScarJo's Russian accent sounds like remains unanswered.
