Re: Second Iron Man 2 trailer to debut on Jimmy Kimmel after the Oscar
I didn't watch this new trailer when it debuted -- I just watched it on YouTube -- but it is so cool! I was wondering from the first trailer how the hell Stark was going to get out of being killed by Whiplash, but I thought he would've had some kind of simple weapon to defend himself, or Nick Fury would come to the rescue.
The fact that they were able to translate the old comic book concept of the armor in the briefcase I totally was impressed with. The briefcase version of the armor was the only thing missing from the first movie -- which virtually had every major permutation of the Iron Man armor (original, clunky gray to the more familiar, streamlined red-and-gold version). Also, the first movie had nearly every major change in Stark's character, from weapons maker to "peacenik" to revealing his identity (a fairly new development in the comic).
Of course, they did foreshadow Tony's bout with alcoholism in the first movie, but can't tell if they'll pick up on that in this one.
As for Whiplash, they turned a ridiculous character from the comics into a more menacing figure. I think Ivan Vanko was also the secret I.D. of one of the Crimson Dynamos, so it looks like he'll follow suit by putting on a full armored suit, courtesy of Justin Hammer. (Sam Rockwell's going to be awesome).
So it's nice to see there are some additional surprises and twists. The whole "Ironette" dancer stuff cracks me up, too!
I am really looking forward to this movie!
