TrekCore is reporting (Amazon is updated too) that season 6 and CoC have been pushed back three weeks to June 24.

Strange since that's never happened before. Hopefully that's for a good reason, like they found film for an episode with upscaled footage or a last minute commentary was added.

I wish there were more behind the scene features added. The only one we have is the 3 part documentary and audio commentaries. Would have been nice to focus on individual episodes or themes or something. This is were season two succeeded, giving us the reading rainbow segment. Wish we had more stuff like that.

What is the "sense" to announce a suggested price of 130 USD, when it's basically sold for 60 USD on the releasing date? With this announced high price you will rather "shock" potential buyers who might lose/pass by their interest. What's the announced price in Europe then, 90 EUR? You can buy the sets at around 30 EUR. The suggested prices are ludicrous.

Apparently their marketing says that suggested price 130 USD/real price 60 USD will sell better then 90 USD/60 USD. Are buyers THAT stupid?

Seeing "54% off" catches the eyes. Pretty much every standard DVD release had an MSRP of 39.99, despite them usually selling for 15-20.

I had an awkward encounter at my doorstep one day. Somebody wanted to sell me something that I usually buy somewhere else e.g. DVDs. The main argument was that they would give me discount. I tried to explain that I don't care about discount but only about the final absolute price. The sales person did not understand my counter argument and said: "So you don't get discount at the other place? Buy from us because we will give you discount on our regular prices."

It doesn't make any sense and I don't know why people (apparently) fall for it. When I get TNG-BD at 59.99 USD (55%off) from A.com or at 31 EUR (no off-indication) from A.it I would rather buy the second one (without discount).

A common ploy at the larger stores is to mark up the price on the item, and then "discount" it to the normal retail price and advertise it as a sale. I've seen that firsthand when buying appliances. Also, avoid liquidation sales, because the prices are often increased, not decreased.

TNG's list price is paltry compared to something like Game of Thrones. Season Three of that series on blu-ray is currently listed at $79.98 for 10 episodes of content. Just move the decimal point one place to the left, that's $7.99 per episode, or for a TNG equivalent sized season, $207.95! Yet, just like TNG, it sells for roughly 50% off MSRP at most retailers. Still too high for me to buy, but then again that series has very little replay value for me, so I can wait it out.

As has already been pointed out, no one really pays the manufacturer's suggested retail price. And as far as TNG goes, I don't even pay the actual discounted retail price! I've bought every single blu-ray on day one since the sampler disc came out (nine releases thus far) and I've only spent around $100 total of my own money thanks to the use of gift cards and rewards points and even recycling our used aluminum cans and plastic bottles after months of accumulation. As these seasons get spaced out further and further I spend less and less on a per episode basis, so I'm not complaining.

I forget what the MSRP was for TNG on DVD, but back in 2002, I would buy each one at Best Buy for $110 a pop, which comes to about $825 with tax, all in about 10 months. I didn't buy the later shows, but I did buy TOS in those colored clamshell cases for $100 a pop too.

I shake my head when some balk at the $60 price tag for TNG-HD. BACK IN MY DAY, we paid $100+ per season for fuzzy faded TV transferred from a tape, and we were happy to do it!

I still remember when TFF was released on VHS and Paramount had the balls to charge $99.99.

Yep, tell me about it. I spent $85-$90 on those TNG seasons too. Then came DS9, Voyager, Enterprise, TOS...

The price for a TV season today is a steal compared to the VHS days, no question. But $60 is still a lot of money which I could put to better use.

Except I'm sure they're past that part now. There's no way they could record and edit the commentaries and still have time to finalize the discs and get them ready for pressing.
