Most of the original effects materials still exist so why waste time and money rendering out new CG? The artists at CBS-D make the model elements look better than anything they could produce in CG without a blockbuster budget.Let me guess - they only upgraded the planets, and there are absolutely no new shots of the Enterprise, only recomposites of existing shots, including the through-the-neck-odd-star-angle shots. All of TNG BR is a wasted opportunity. Great to have upgraded color, and better sound, no doubt, but give the option for either original-recomposited effects and new effects with new angles and ships.
I can economically understand that argument, absolutely. But I was watching TOS-Remastered with my girlfriend a few nights ago, and one of the things I caught was the Enterprise passing by, and being able to see inside the windows into the interior of the ship. That was amazing. That kind of remastering and detail work you can't get with physical models. I'm not asking for that every single shot of the ship, but adding maybe two or three new orbit shots and warp shots with that kind of detail would certainly add a sense of scale to the Enterprise D rather than blank window-lights. With adding two or three new establishing shots, they could mix it up a bit more down the line, and increase visual interest with the detail work.
