Fleet Captain
Any word on when they're going to start filming this?
Also any thoughts on what's going to happen, or what monsters may appear? Season 8 featured pretty much Doctor Who's "big three" bad guys, so maybe they should get a break ala most of season 6.
It might be nice to see the Ice Warriors return, with perhaps more than one this time. Cold War was an OK episode but at times felt too much like "Dalek" and could've worked with any monster really. Although it's possible they're the aliens in the Christmas special.
Also feel the Sontarans have been played far too much for laughs via Strax and some others, perhaps a return to the more sinister Sontarans of Classic Who and RTD's Who/SJA.
Bound to see the Weeping Angels probably. Capaldi hasn't faced them yet, although they did appear in a small role in Time Of The Doctor.
On that's note, we're probably going to see the Paternoster gang yet again-and the new UNIT, minus Osgood.
I wouldn't bring Missy back so soon but we'll probably have some developments in the Gallifrey plotline.
River was more of a Matt Smith thing, although she got a name-drop this season in "The Caretaker". Not sure she'll return, although perhaps Capaldi was the one who gave her the screwdriver? We didn't see Smith do it, although there were those webisodes that implied that he might have.
I'm thinking we might get a new companion fairly soon, although Clara might still return for at least part of the season. I wonder if we'll actually have her die, apart from one-off companions like Astrid none of the companions in the current WHO have really 'died', they've just ended up in another universe, had their minds wiped, fallen in love or died simply of old age (although after being sent into the past). Unless you call Danny or Osgood a companion. Granted, not a lot of the companions died in the original series either (Only about four-Katarina, Sarah Kingdom, Kamelion and Adric, although the fate of some companions are unresolved such as Ace)
As for the Doctor himself, maybe we'll see more of the slightly darker side of this Doctor, plus why he seems to not like soldiers (with the exception of UNIT). Capaldi also said his Doctor has more of a relationship with time than the others, which we've sort of seen with "Listen" and "Kill the Moon" he seemed to predict things about the timeline (Although Mcgann's Doctor seemed to have this ability as well in the TV movie)
Any other thoughts/ideas?
