Season 7 :(

Can't blame her, I guess. Ask for a lighter schedule, and not only get fired but effectively another person gets hired to play your character.

Not getting your contract renewed is NOT the same as getting fired. Getting fired means you've been terminated for cause, something you did wrong or something you were obligated to do and didn't. Not having your contract renewed does not imply any fault - needs or desires may change, or just couldn't come to an agreement on money and working conditions.

I can't help but think that the only reliable perspective about Farrell's departure in the doc is Dorn's: only the people involved know what happened. It's hard to keep a cast together over many seasons, and actors leave for reasons that can be practical or emotional. The fact is that DS9 was so stable, in front of and behind the camera, that Farrell departing stands out.

Reactions: kkt
The classic Treks all seemed relatively stable.

TOS: Started with 6 main characters. Added one (Chekhov) in S3. Had the same 7 from then on, through 6 movies.

TNG: Started with 9 main characters. Subtracted one (Tasha) in S1, subtracted another (Wes) in S2. Had the same 7 from then on, through 4 seasons and 4 movies.

DS9: Started with 8 characters. Added one in S4 (Worf). Lost one in S6 (Jadzia). Gained one in S7 (Ezri). And that COULD be considered hiring a different actress to play the same character.

VOY: Started with 9 characters. Added one and lost one in S4 (7/Kes).

ENT: No changes in 4 seasons.

Janice Rand: according to promo photographs, Grace Lee Whitney was part of the cast, probably on par with Takei and NIchols.

DS9 established repeatedly that joined Trills are a combination of traits of the symbiont and the host. De Boer played the Dax symbiont with a different host. Ezri was significantly different from Jadzia. Jadzia signed up to be a science officer, exploring and solving problems. Ezri signed up to help people with mental problems. Jadzia exercised with a Batleth, Ezri never learned the Batleth or any other martial art. Jadzia was passionately in love with Worf. Ezri regarded Worf as a dear friend, hurt when he was hurting, but never wanted to be in a romantic relationship with him. Jadzia liked Klingons in general, Ezri had trouble looking past how hypocritical they were about personal honor when it suited them. Ezri is not just a different actor playing the same character.

Hence my emphasis of the word "COULD".
