Season 5 the final episode. Too many happy endings epilogue for the Burnham clan

I actually think Book and Burnham make a cute couple and I'm very happy that they have a stable family.

Damn, I'm glad I watched the finale before seeing this thread title.

Not that Burnham getting a happy ending was a shocking resolution for the season. Plus we knew that they'd done reshoots to add an additional ending so that wasn't a surprise either. Personally, I think they could've saved their money and ended it on the beach and it would've been fine, that was closure enough.

However, these days a happy ending only promises that things will be okay for a bit, as if you leave a hero off screen for long enough, some writer is eventually going to bring them back and reveal that their life fell apart in the meantime. Sequels are not often kind to legacy heroes. But Discovery's time jump epilogue shows that things are going to carry on going right for Burnham, for the next few decades at least. She's safe!

Maybe that was worth a few extra minutes.
