Season 5 Arcs?

Do you think Moffat will have any major arcs, like RTD has in the past 4 seasons? If so, what do you think it will be about?

I think it's probably safe to say that Professor River Song will be involved in some sort of arc.

According to people with a good track record on Spoilers the arc will involve

the Doctor finding bits of his TARDIS in various places he's visiting, except those bits aren't currently missing from it. (Suggesting that it gets destroyed some time in his future with the bits being scattered backwards along its travel path in some Timey-Wimey fashion.)

He just needs to edit in = after the first "Spoiler."

Anyways, I think that's an interesting story arc. And I think Sci's right about River Song.

Sounds much more interesting than Bad Wolf and some others we had.

It might be nice to get such an overt season arc as a change, many of RTD's were more of a case of making you look back to notice them, how many picked up on Bad Wolf the first time through? Or the bees all going?

Well Bad Wolf was pretty prominant, and also somewhat silly. Same with Torchwood, it was a mite obvious. The Harold Saxon and the missing planets/bees etc were both a lot more subtle.

Bad Wolf gets in your face in Aliens of London, you notice the kid spray painting it on the TARDIS, and that leads to all the other Bad Wolf referances being noticeable until it finally gets addressed. Then upon re-watching the episodes I noticed there were Bad Wolf referances in End of the World and The Unquiet Dead.

The Torchwood referance in The Christmas Invasion is noticeable because it was only a month earlier that BBC announced Torchwood the series, so to see Doctor Who referancing it now sticks out, as did the referances in all subsequent S2 episodes.

RTD revealed before S3 aired that Mr. Saxon would be the arc word for the year, so that was pretty obvious when those episodes aired.

By S4, it was pretty obvious the bees going missing was going to mean something given how often it was mentioned. Also, the multiple referances to the Medusa Cascade throughout the season, and all the planets that had gone missing.

Personally, I like these arcs, they're fun and reward always watching the show without requiring it.

People seem to like/prefer arcs these days. I'm not a huge fan of arcs (it reduces the ability for a show to attract new viewers as it progresses), but DW has done well for itself with the previous arcs.

Odds are (I'm not clicking the spoiler links) it'll be more of a background arc like Bad Wolf that germinates in the finale.

I'm just curious if there will be a Doctor-lite episode this year. We haven't heard of any Christmas special being commissioned, so technically they won't need to have one this time around if they don't film the special until later (assuming there's a special).

It's been mentioned in various places that they're doing a Christmas special this year which will be shot after episode 13, so yes, that should mean a Doctor-lite episode (and possibly an Amy-lite episode) this year.

Well if we get an arc I really hope that Moffat gives us a real arc. Just throwing in a random word in random episodes and then having the word vaguely mean something in the finale does not make an arc. The Key to Time, now that was an arc. I'd love to see something like that again.

 Wow.
