Spoilers Season 4 Trailer

But I think to their point, the drama came out of the exploration. It was finding the unknown and trying to understand it (or combat it).

Star Trek usually does a better job with this though.

Remember the navigator in Red October who could find his way around the ocean floor with an accurate chart and a stop watch?

Star Trek isn't like that.

yes yes yes yes YES! DISCO IS BACK! And I for one am very excited for this season has to offer. Now on to the notable topics: The Uniforms, ooohhh they look clean I love that gone with a style with the color being up front and center. For the plot of the season I'm looking forward to how the themes of unity and coming play into this, especially if there are characters/groups who might not be so keen that. As for it being a "another galaxy threatening event" I didn't get from the trailer as others like Tuskin38 have said, it's only 5 Light years wide I suspect it's mostly likely a local phenomenon. But to end on high note I'm so glad Nutrek is back! Can't wait to see what it has to offer!

This whole each show must fit into it's own box is creatively stifling and, on a meta level, antithetical to the core of the franchise.

The doesn't need to be a high concept to tell an engaging story.
Hilarious.

I have spent quite a few posts comparing the history of the Berman era over the years to contemporary Trek, and why the way they are producing shows now allows for diversity in style and creativity and minimizes the sameness and producer-fatigue (much more at fault than fan fatigue) that eventually overtook those shows, but you think it's stifling. I really don't see many people agreeing with you on this one.

I guess I'm in the minority, because I'm seeing lots of strong reactions to this trailer on both sides, and I'm just...**shrug**

I mean, I am glad they seem to be building on the foundations of Season 3, rather than just doing a soft reboot for the third time. And they seem to be avoiding immediately obvious fanwank. But there wasn't anything which really enthused me in the trailer. It's just moar Discovery, which is a show I think has settled into "unobjectionable."

For myself, it's good, but the weakest of the 3 seasons. Social media at large seems to disagree with me, and season 3 seems to be more popular than ever.

I'm all for new uniforms but they only wore the previous ones for about 2 minutes in the finale. I wish someone would just nail down what this show is supposed to be about or what it's suppose to look like. Before Season 4 has even aired then there's already signs that they are charging their minds about things every five minutes.

As mentioned several times earlier, the gray color was too similar to the wall color so they changed the color. A practical matter and not indicative of them changing minds randomly.

I'm sure the changes were made in preproduction. We know the uniform change happened because they didn't look good on the DISCO sets.

What's hilarious is that you continue to insist "Well Berman Trek yadda yadda..." is some kind of sound argument.

But we've now had High Concept™ threatens the universe four times now and it seems like we're due for number five and probably a Q-laced sixth. What's that about avoiding sameness? I guess having the maudlin downer show separate from the existential crisis show keeps things fresh?
