Season 3 - We all KNOW it was great.

I just finished watching "Allegiance". A good episode overall, but for me the best part is at the very end, before Picard orders the Enterprise to rendezvous with the Hood, Crusher walks onto the bridge sits in the chair next to him and gives him a look, to which he reciprocates with curiosity, and then meekly orders "engage".
This is my favorite part too!

I just caught another moment, while I was watching "Captain's Holiday". When Picard is sitting in the sun reading his book, and the incredibly hot Risan starts talking to him and gets onto the subject of his recently purchased Horgon.

Picard: It's for a friend [Riker].
Risan: Ah, someone close to you?
Picard: Yes.
Risan: Someone you love?
Picard: I wouldn't go that far.

And I just started laughing so hard. Beautiful line, delivered perfectly by Stewart.

Haha, brilliant! :guffaw:

I'm often surprised how often that bit of dialogue gets overlooked when may comment on that episode.

I forgot about that one too. It is the delivery in that line that makes it so good, I couldn't agree with you more!

There is so much in the show, I'm just noticing it myself.

Exactly. I'm currently watching "A Matter of Perspective" and during the first few minutes where Picard is painting, and asks for Data's expert critique, Data gives Picard this sidelong glance while Picard's not looking at him, and I just start busting out laughing. I had never noticed that moment before, but it was brilliant.

We didn't receive TNG in my area until towards the end of the third season. For the first, second and most of the third seasons, I had to rely on my brother who did receive the show where he lived and taped the series for me. Every six weeks I received the latest tape, six episodes to a tape. I can still remember watching those third season shows and being amazed at how good the series was becoming. I think that third season might be the high point of all the post TOS series.

I have to ask, Randi, what episodes you thought were awful in Season Three?

Hi! Sorry, i haven't peeked in for a few days. There aren't many that i would say were awful, but off the top of my head i would have to say that The Ensigns of Command, The Price and The Vengeance Factor were awful. ESPECIALLY Vengeance Factor. They just didn't work for me.

I thought Ensigns of Command was good for the Sheliak design, and how Picard turned the tables on them with the Treaty.

I agree with those three episodes listed as three of the weakest in an incredibly consistent, almost perfect season 3, although I like "The Ensigns of Command". I agree that the Sheliak plot is the best part, but the other plotline with Data is fascinating too, and I thought it was adorable how one of the women on the planet got a crush on him and the way he handled it. "You appeared to need it" was such a sweet line. :adore:
