Spoilers Season 3 episode 3 'People of Earth' promo

The question I have: How insane is it that they have ships still using Dilithium. I ask because if Dilithium can go inert once; it could do so again, meaning ANYONE using it for space travel runs the rick of self annihilation EVERYTIME they fly through space.
They don't have a choice. Like book said last week other types of ftl are too slow or require substances that aren't readily available. Slipstream for example still needs benamite crystals which appear to be just as rare in the 32nd century as it was 24th.

I have the No Ad option on CBS All Access. Could that be why? I will probably watch this episode again but on Apple TV I'm not getting any of that, and i don't see these previews in the extras section.
I have the no ad option and I also don't get the previews. It's annoying.
I have the cheaper version and I see the previews - so apparently they count as ads, which even makes sense XD

Can we talk about that weird alien dude for a second he looks mean
Looks like a robotic Osnullus to me

Looks like a Starfleet attack force suspicious of the Discovery. New future phasers, uniforms and some tactical gear visible.

Apparently non-active ships with dilithium were not destroyed...

So it's a three-stage process: first dilithium grows scarce and the Federation loses cohesion, then dilithium goes inert and the warp drives that rely on it blow up (supposedly because m/am annihilation without dilithium goes wild), and then the weakened Federation can't figure out what happened so the rest falls apart. But somehow there remains some non-inert dilithium for use afterwards.

The written-in mystery is the apparent attack against dilithium (perhaps only targeted where it hurts the most, so dilithium outside active ships survives). The unwritten mystery is why inability to find more dilithium in the early stages is such a problem if they have this recrystallizing thing down pat. But they supposedly have that in TNG, and still the Romulans rather desperately mine for more dilithium, so the net loss isn't insignificant, even if failure to expand weren't a problem.

I like the design of Burnham's new ride. Does this mean the shuttle prop is lost forever, though, this being a likely conversion? What will SNW use?

I'm guessing they beam aboard from the ship carrying Burnham, before she comes abroad to diffuse things.

I've also got a feeling earth is the planet surrounded by the shield grid and possibly no longer under federation control.

They probably came up with a automatic containment shutoff (of the m/a-m mix) if the NEW dilithium sensor detects it going inert.

Are they only running immediately after the episode comes out. Both weeks now the episodes end and the credits roll. I had to look up on Youtube to see the this season on and the promo for next week.

Also, the volume on Apple TV's CBS All Access is really low. I have my TV up all the way to 40 and it still feels low. Is anyone else having this issue. I always watch this show with subtitles so it's not a big deal but other channels are normal.
That's funny- yes- I'm having that, too. I just turned the vol up and assumed it was my tv.
But, as the late Jay Severin used to say: If it happens once, it happened once. If it happens twice, it happened twenty times. If if happens 3 times...........

I’m just waiting for the reveal that Starfleet are the baddies. They’ve lived long enough to become the villains

You know what I wouldn't mind that..... I like this idea and its my favourite thing on the Citadel :)

Oh Starfleet has tons of flying saucers now..... So they are to blame for UFO sightings in the past.

Soooooo does this mean that Burnham doesn’t actually return to Discovery as a crew member?
