Season 2's "Paradise"-finally we start to see an interesting Sisko!

I am rewatching all of DS9 and just re-watched S2's "Paradise." I feel that this was really a turning point (at least for me) in my view of Sisko. Avery Brooks, who I do not usually think is a great actor, really nails this one from start to finish. Sisko is clearthinking and well-spoken for the whole episode, and the scenes of him going in the box (twice!) are just jaw droppers. It just seems to me that this is the kind of Sisko we could have done with more of in S1, where is is often superfluous to the action and not central to it (where I think he should be). Do others feel this way about the evolution of his character?

I don't really see that episode as the begining of a character change, but at some point, maybe from around WotW onwards, Sisk suddently transforms from a mildly spoken guy into a loose cannon going around shouting at everyone and giving over-the-top monologues about this or that.

Definitely after he went bald and grew the beard.

Sisko should have kicked all their asses.

Well, there were seeds of that as far back as when he whacked Q in the face and proceeded to yell "I. AM NOT. PICARD!" at him from point-blank range...

Yeah, I found myself (back when it aired) wishing his response wasn't so passive. If the leader of the group were male (or if this were a VOY ep with Janeway), he would've decked the guy, and these idiots would have come to their senses alot sooner. :)
But then, the episode would have ran a little short.

Well, Sisko didn't know exactly what was going on... so I don't mind them running the ep to it's full length

First of all, it was a boxing match. Second, Sisko hit Q only after Q started punching him REPEATEDLY in the face. Third, he didn't 'yell...from point-blank range', rather he said it in something like a harsh whisper. He hadn't lost it. If anything he was just annoyed and even bored by the whole thing.

Well, it's one of my favorite scenes from the early DSN eps. The whole "I'm not Picard" line is priceless. But I don't agree that Paradise marks a turning point for Sisko's character. He is at times patient, other times quietly menacing, and still other times over the top. These are all part of his personality, which is a tad unpredictable. We see from early on that he has bile, from his hostility to Picard in Emissary and in Captive Pursuit, when he chews O'Brien out. -- RR

Even before the bald, Sisko really changed when we see the beard.

That btich from Paradise is lucky she didn't run into the "in the pale moonlight" Sisko...

Imaine the log entry at the end
"so..I had no choice, but to kill her where she stood...and if I had to do it all over again...I WOULD"
