News Season 2 will be the last (show cancelled)

There are literally episodes about her realising she's got a stick stuck where the sun don't shine, and warming up, over the past several seasons.
Which has been the best aspects..I didn't want her to remain distant and remote but warm up and be enjoyable. Those characters are my favorite, and I see it with my favorite characters across shows: Spock, Tuvok, and even Spock in the Kelvin universe. In non Star Trek it's Charles Winchester from MASH (Sons and Bowlers being the best), Captain Holt in Brooklyn 99, and Din Djarin in Mandalorian.

True but in real life human evolution wasn't artificial and designed to grow into the same model as pretty much every other race in the galaxy. One assumes based on Salome's monologue that animals existed throughout the galaxy just not sapient species. So it's a very different rulebook in play. It just stands to reason that human-alien interbreeding was something planned for.
We can't even accept blood from all humans as humans!

This does rely on the assumption some aren't secretly lizard people.
Not me though.
Definitely not me.

But scientifically plausible they are not.

I don't think Trek has ever been scientifically possible. I've lived to learn with that. What I still can't live with is when one of the shows puts someone in command that shouldn't be remotely near the captain's chair. Crusher, Chekov (in ST2009), Kirk (cadet promoted to first officer), Tilly.

Kirk is a lieutenant and lawfully placed in the chain of command as a line officer. His billet is cadet, but ranks as lieutenant. Eligible to move up and down the chain. Same with Chekov.

Tilly I'll grant but that was a trauma response.

The flagship of the Federation had absolutely no one else that could be left in command? Heck, Pike just learned Chekov's name before placing him in command of the bridge.

Fascinating idea that the Federation is crammed on to one ship ;)

But, it was an emergency situation utilizing Academy cadets to fill out compliments. If I were to guess, Olson, Sulu, and Dr. Pury were all eligible officers, but two were sent on the away mission and one died before Chekov was given the helm after Spock relinquished it in a moment of impulsivity due to the threat to Vulcan.

A cadet should NOT be placed in a command position of a starship, let alone a top of the line one.

As proof... DS9's "VALIANT".

Chekov was 17. I still have no idea what they were thinking beyond they had to give him something to do, no matter if it made sense or not.

In all honesty, Kirk being on academic suspension, he should've been ineligible to take a place in the chain of command.

Pike is the commanding officer who is able to place people in the chain if he deems it so. Even if STARFLEET isn't the US NAVY, commanding officers get latitude and only have their superiors to answer to.

This is an aspect of the film I'm willing to use my imagination and work with. It's similar enough to TOS and such that I can live with it. ;)

It's a lot of fun and the Easter eggs and continuity references are so much fun for me, but damn, the movie gives you a headache after the first 10 minutes (which are also far and away the best part of the whole film).

I remember being really intrigued by the 2009 trailer; surely they were teasing a major unknown plot development that would explain putting cadet Kirk in the big chair, right?

Nope, it was just as inexplicable in the film as it was in the trailer.
