News Season 2 will be the last (show cancelled)

Nostalgia is the mind-killer. All it does is drown viewers in memories and prevents anything and anyone from growing.

If you want your "specific thing," just watch the reruns. The rest of us can watch and enjoy all the flavors in the Trek rainbow just fine.
Nostalgia IS the killer... the overuse of nostalgia is a factor in why the Kurtzman era is not regarded more highly.

Sayeth the one crowing for Star Trek to slavishly return to the 20th century manner in which it had been produced, once upon a time.

Never said that. It needs to be star trek. Not some show taking place further in the future with 20th/21st century slang everywhere as well as the same old tech like padds. Transporters couldn't even stay online. Lol

I can't really quantify what Star Trek "is" to me. What makes Star Trek "truly" Star Trek is that feeling I get when I watch it, it's the same feeling I get watching the vast majority of the franchise, a warm comforting feeling occasionally accompanied by frisson.

If it doesn’t have me thinking about it after viewing, I consider it a failure.

In what sense? In the cerebral sense or just when something echoes in your head?

Both. If it makes me think, I’m delighted. If it has great set pieces and some memorable dialogue, I’m also good.

Which is why I peg SFA as an interesting failure. Unfortunately, so much of it is instantly forgettable. If they had made a movie out of episodes 1, 6 and 10, they’d have a banger of the movie.

You’re moving the goalposts. Besides, I doubt that as they were winding down Star Trek that they could imagine what the future would hold.

No goal post moving. STD is niche. Most people haven't seen it. Its not a culturally significant show. Modern shows can get to that status still but STD never will. SNW blew STDs numbers out of the water when it premiered but that didn't last long at all. Now it struggles to get in the top 10. We have to face reality. Kurtzman Trek was not a phenomenon. Not like shows like The Boys, Landman etc.

This is gibberish. Good to see the more things change, the more they stay the same.
