Spoilers Season 2 Trailers, Previews, and Promos

Seems the left wrap style is back

The showrunner did say he was inspired by the WOK uniform.
Yea I did hear that, the "Monster Maroons" - but its curious that Lower Decks, Prodigy, Picard have all finally settled into a design aesthetic - which was predated by Endgame in Voyager, and the other "alt future" designs from Berman's Era.

Picard season 1 was a bit of a mess Uniform wise, but season 2 seems to be fixing that somewhat. And Prodigy revealed their contribution - whilst also having their own take on uniforms for the main cast on the Protostar

So Picard has an official Starfleet insignia on his gray jacket. I wonder what his role in Starfleet is going to be. Forgive me if those details have already been revealed. I haven't been keeping up on season 2 news.

Is it just me, or is the patterning on the shoulders just a fabric pattern this time rather than deltas? I hope this is the case as not a fan of all the deltas. But either way, I like these a lot. Wish the comm badge had a gold backing rather than the black on the black uniform. AGT future comm badges have been a favourite of mine for years.

Why the hell would they care?

Uniforms are meant as a functional attire and they utilize them as such. These are not huge changes, but minor variations to day to day workwear. Current military commands have "uniforms of the day" that can be ordered by the CO based upon regulations. Why would Starfleet be different?

I don't think it's the lighting. It's too perfect.

I wonder if this was maybe an early version that they didn't like and replaced, and those shots accidentally made it into the press kit?

That would also explain why her hair is longer in the shots of the uniform without the trim.

Yes, agree — it looks like it could be silver in some shots (as against the broad gold band for the admirals), which was what made me wonder if it was intended for the big lecture hall scene (Starfleet Academy commencement…?) — but then there are other shots that very clearly seem to just have yellow piping on the pants and black / yellow piping around the collar. Maybe it is indeed photos from two different scenes that got conflated for the press release, or you could well be right and it’s an earlier concept / version of the uniform that was superseded as the production developed.

If it is some sort of dress version, it almost doesn’t seem worth the effort, given how otherwise identical it seems to the “standard” version.

We’ll find out soon enough…!

The Asymmetry is like a copy paste of the TNG uniform

The patterning on the uniform is the obvious place to add detail for HD and 4k filming, without losing the flat plain colour aesthetic that is a staple of the series

Yes, and that feature on the TNG uniforms, in turn, mimics the bottom angle of the Starfleet arrowhead / delta symbol. Always thought it was a clever feature.

As much as I’m not particularly keen on it, I agree that the extra detail for the 4K shoot is exactly why the textured printing is there. I guess it’s better restricted to the shoulders as a “feature” rather then being the whole shirt like the early JJ uniforms!

Interestingly, the black jacket that Picard is wearing as he enters the bridge of the Stargazer also has the delta pattern printed on the shoulder yoke and there is a matching stripe below the yoke, the same as the extra red trim stripe on the regular admiral uniform. It looks like that might actually be an informal uniform variant rather than just a Picard in black civvies with a combadge!

It's definitely the delta printing again.

It's a chrome silver delta on a graphite gray backing -- I agree it's a little bland but I guess it's a new aesthetic for a new era...

At least the rank pips are also a matching chrome, and the new trapezoid admiral bars use chrome for the pips and border and the same graphite gray for the background.

In some ways, silver works better than gold because it contrasts against both the black and the three uniform colors and doesn't get lost against the yellow/gold uniforms.

"Uniform of the Day":
The "uniform of the day," when referred to in a military sense, is the designated uniform all military personnel are required to wear on that particular day. It is often designated by the senior officer on the base. Normally the uniform is determined by the seasons (e.g. winter blues or summer whites for Navy) however, special occasions (e.g. visiting dignitaries) or weather changes may dictate changes to the uniform of the day. The uniform of the day instruction is broadcast over the 1MC at reveille on board U.S. Navy ships
I don't think the "Uniform of the Day" means what you think it means.

IRL it's the CO telling his crew on base or ship what to wear (Winter Uniforms, Summer Uniforms, Formal Wear, Special Environment/Climate Uniforms like Desert Uniforms).

It's not just bust out retro uniform days for lulz.
