Not encouraged by the storyline of "Spock and others have visions of angels." Seems hackneyed and too reminiscent of evangelical entertainment. I'm further alarmed by the fact that the show hired Vaun Wilmott, creator of a series about a war between the archangel Gabriel and the archangel Michael. This season was set up, in part, by the fired Aaron Harberts, who said he wanted to explore the theme of "faith vs. science." Harberts also described himself as an "Iowa-born son of a preacher."
Now, of course Star Trek can explore themes of faith and religion. Deep Space Nine did so admirably. But I've seen nothing from Discovery's writers/producers that leads me to think they can handle this complex and potentially problematical subject admirably, especially given their penchant for action, melodrama, and shallow twists.
